"Hey, Bonnie, it's me just checking in," Elena speaks into the phone as I jump up and down on the bed next to her."Tell her I'm here too, tell her that Emily is checking in on her too!" I whisper-yell.
Elena rolls her eyes. "Yep, just me, for sure." I scoff and shove Elena off the bed, causing her to drop her phone. I pick it up before she can.
"Actually it's the both of us. We want to see how you're doing. We miss you lots hun. Don't let your aunt drive you too crazy, even though I would even more!" I say, happily as I can, hoping to boost her mood. I remember Bonnie's face after her grams died and I was reminded of how I was when my parents died. I want to help her as much as I can.
Elena picks herself up and glares at me. "That was unnecessary."
I cluck my tongue. "That's what you think, little sister."
"Three minutes, Emily. You're older by three minutes."
"Best three minutes of my life," I say, hopping off the bed to dodge the pillow thrown at me.
More pillows are being thrown at me and I continue to dodge them like the goddess that I am. Jenna walks in the room and gets hit face first and I burst out laughing from her face. "And to think I was coming in here to see if y'all needed anything," Jenna says, shaking her head about to walk out.
"Wait!" Elena and I said at the same time. I narrow my eyes at her and mutter, "Twin powers."
"I would love some money cause ya girl is broke," I ask, smiling my most innocent smile.
Jenna scoffs. "And you think I'm not? Elena, what do you need? Please tell me it's not money."
"I was wondering...you said that you would do some digging about them, the adoption," Elena reminds her.
I purse my lips, still a little touchy with the fact that I'm adopted. It's not that I feel abandoned or betrayed or anything, but I was so close with my dad, he meant everything to me. I loved my mom too. It was just so hard for me to imagine them as not my real parents.
"Yeah," I chimed in, "Did you dig?"
Jenna gives us her sneaky smile and nods her head towards then stairs. "Follow me."
Elena and I walk after Jenna, admittedly a little anxious. She pulls out here laptop and begins typing away while explaining to us. "Your dad kept everything from his medical practice—records, logs, old appointment books. I found an entry from the night you two were born. Patient and a birth date. Isobel Peterson."
"Isobel, huh, it's a pretty name. Gotta say I don't like the idea of my last name as Peterson though," I comment.
Elena rolls her eyes at me before asking, "Do you think that's her real name?"
"Oh! Good point, lil sis," I say, snapping my fingers in realization. "Probably not. I mean if I was a pregnant teenage runaway I wouldn't use my name."
Jenna shakes her head. "Let's hope, Emily, you don't have to worry about that." I wiggle my eyebrows and Elena lightly hits my arm. "But you are right about the name. It's most likely not her last name, but first name possibly."
"Then what's the last name from? She just picked it randomly?" I ask.
Elena beams. "Look at you, asking a reasonable and helpful question." This time it was my turn to hit Elena's arm.
"My thoughts was a friend, so I googled it. I searched for all the Peterson's in the area as the same class as Isobel. 3 answer popped up- 2 were men and 1 was a woman, Trudie, who lived in Grove Hill, Virginia," Jenna explains, pulling up her computer.
