"Anakin, wake up." Whispered Padme Skywalker, hunched over her sleeping husband. "It's late." The man didn't respond, didn't even twitch at her voice over his ear, just continued slumbering peacefully. His wife sat back with a smirk. There was no way she was getting him up at this time. For a woman who liked to wake at the crack of dawn, she found it amusing that she married a man who could sleep well into the afternoon. It was around 8 in the morning on this side of Coruscant. The sun had begun to illuminate the room and fill it with warmth. It was the perfect time to be outside, doing anything but sleeping.
She gazed out a window, drinking in the day, pondering what to make for breakfast, trying to figure out what in the world she was going to do about that list of contacts who needed attention. And how to start her day? A walk would be nice. Too bad Coruscant had no greenery of its own. The Botontical Gardens was very far and she didn't feel like flying anywhere just yet. Tea and a short routine of stretches around her apartment seemed like a better yet equally refreshing idea. Then the duvet squeezed around her. She looked down, startled to see the blankets swirling around her waist. Calm down, Padme. Blankets don't move like that. But it kept pulling and tugging, and she realized she was slowly slipping downwards. She looked to her left and found the source of the tugging, drowsy eyes drooping closed as soon as she made eye-contact. Anakin. Of course.
"Ani, stop that."
"Go back to sleep" He murmured, voice low and scratchy.
She laughed. "No, it's late. I let you sleep in. I was going to get up."
"It's too early."
This time she almost groaned, shaking her head and swinging her legs over the bed. There was no point in aruging. He could stay in bed, besides, with all he went through, there was a good chance his body desperately needed to recupperate. Right as she was standing, he launched himself out and caught her. "No, come here."
There was a light scoff in her voice as she spoke. "Ani, please." He only buried his face in the crook of her neck, smashing the soft curls there. "You're not going anywhere." She really had no physical power over him. If he was going to hold her there forever he could and she would be utterly helpless. But there was still something so gentle about the way he held her, firm, but without aggression. It was comforting, like a safehaven. In some strange way it had power to make her lose her senses. She really could stay there forever. However, she did have a few strong advanatages: his love, and her voice.
"You can't possibly keep me here all day."
"Yes, I can."
"I have things to do."
"Do them later."
She made a face. "I'll make you breakfast."
For a moment he didn't move and she thought she won. Then he pulled her down into him as he lay down and enveloped her in his arms. "Just stay with me."
Really, he could be so childish. Yet she adored him. His ability to completely relax inFriday difficult situationss often set her at ease...as often as it frustrated her. For now, she thought of the long list of things to do today. She thought of the beings waiting for her to contact them. She thought of her restless mind. Then it was inexplicably replaced by how peaceful it was here in her husband's arms, surrounded by an ocean of comfort.
No pressure, no worries, no frustration. It was easy to be here. Maybe...just maybe...it wouldn't be so bad to let him win. Just this once. As long as she could win her part later.
She craned her neck towards the window and felt the warmth of the sunlight on her face. Somehow the loud airspeeders outside blended together into something like soothing white noise. Finally she could understand how Anakin was able to sleep at this hour when the world around them was waking up. Compared to sleeping through war and chaos...What was laziness to her must be a piece of paradise for him. And at that she smiled and curled up into him, whispering,
"Five more minutes, all right?"
There was no response. He was already fast asleep.
