Scanning the store shelves, Kyle let out a small sigh. The shelves were rather bare, it was the end of the week and the store hadn't restocked the shelves yet. So he settled on a small package of salted peanuts. He grabbed them off the shelf and went to the front of the store. As he paid for his snack he gave the cashier a small smile.
“Have a lovely day” she said smiling back at him. Kyle nodded and walked out. He began to stroll down the street and shoved the package into his rusty orange colored jacket. The town was small, one store, two gas stations, and one of each school. No collage, no really fancy parks, no big city mall. Most of the buildings are outdated and old.
Sighing Kyle thought about going home, but instead turned and headed for the lake that wasn't that far out of town. As he walked still a good five minutes until he got there, he pulled out the peanuts from his pocket. Kyle opened the bag and took one out. He began eating them not too quickly hoping he could at least enjoy them until he got there, he kept walking while looking down at the sidewalk.
Though, just as if he wasn't supposed to enjoy his snack Kyle crashed into something-or rather someone. Kyle stumbled back and dropped the bag, as it hit the ground the peanuts scattered across the dirt. The mystery person let out a small grunt as they hit the ground. Kyle felt his face flush with embarrassment as he rushed to help them up.
The person stood refusing Kyle's help he was able to get a better look at them. He was a male, a bit taller than Kyle, but really skinny, he had light brown eyes, and really, really curly brown hair. Kyle couldn't help himself but stare this guy was... Really attractive. Kyle was snapped out of his thoughts by a muffled voice. He looked at the boy who now had a concerned look on his face.
“Did you hear me? “ He said looking at Kyle.
“No I'm sorry I must have spaced out” Kyle said quietly rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.
“I asked if you were alright” the boy said.
“I'm just fine, but I should be asking you since I wasn't paying attention. I'm sorry” Kyle said shrugging.
“It's alright, I wasn't either” the boy responded. Kyle nodded once again and ran a hand through his ginger hair.
“I'm Kyle. Are you new around here? “ He asked changing the subject.
“Caspian” he said in response “and yes I am, I'm visiting my aunt for a while”
“Oh really? Who is your aunt?” Kyle asked.
“Her name is Teresa she runs-” Caspian started but was suddenly stopped.
“She runs the flower shop right? “ Kyle said accidentally interrupting. As he realized what he did he covered his mouth and muttered a 'sorry'.
“Yes she does. It's alright. “ Caspian said flashing Kyle a smile. Kyle nodded and felt his face heat up slightly. He shifted nervously in his feet.
“I should probably get going, maybe I'll see you around” Kyle said smiling back. He turned and started walking back to his house when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Wait, can you help me actually?” Caspian asked. Kyle turned around and nodded.
“What do you need help with? “
“I was looking around for the lake... Or river... I don't quite remember but I can't find it for the life of me. “
“Oh I can help with that! “ Kyle exclaimed happily. “I'll show you how to get there... I'm not very good at giving directions.” Caspian's face lit up slightly and Kyle started walking.
“Why do you want to go to the river anyways? Judging by the way you are dressed you aren't going to go swimming... Unless you are planning on skinny dipping” Kyle said teasingly. A light blush went across Caspian's face as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“I was planning on taking photos actually, I've always enjoyed nature photography” Caspian responded. It was only at this moment did Kyle notice the bag on Caspian's shoulder. A camera bag.
“That's really cool! I know just the spot to take you too then! It's got a lot of nice things that would make for an amazing photo” Kyle responded with a big smile. Caspian responded with a light smile and kept walking. Not long after they had arrived at the river and Kyle stopped for a moment and looked around, trying to remember how to get to that spot.
“I think it's this way” he thought out loud as he absentmindedly grabbed Caspian's hand and dragged him to the right. After pulling Caspian through a few bushes Kyle stopped and let go of his hand. Once again feeling his face heat up. Kyle looked down and kicked at the dirt letting Caspian regain his balance.
“Wow... You were right this is a good spot” Caspian whispered in astonishment. The river was covered with a canopy of trees with the sunlight peaking through openings in the leaves. Kyle watched as Caspian took out his camera and adjusted a few things. Caspian knelt and looked through the lens. He took quite a few photos and stood up looking back at Kyle with a gorgeous grin.
“I think these will be perfect! “ Caspian exclaimed. Kyle rubbed the back of his neck and gave an embarrassed smile. Caspian put his camera back after turning it off.
“Are you ready to go back? “ Kyle asked.
“Yep, I'm ready” Nodding Kyle started walking back and made sure that Caspian was following him. Kyle couldn't get over how perfect Caspian looked, the way the sun lit up his face and made his eyes brighter. Lost in thought, Kyle wasn't paying attention and ended up tripping when the ground shifted and dipped a little. Falling down Kyle let out a small squeak and hit the ground. Caspian's eyes widened as he went over to help Kyle up.
“I hope you aren't falling for me” Caspian said chuckling slightly. Upon hearing this Kyle's face heated up again, and he scrambled to his feet. Brushing himself off. The rest of the walk was silent and awkward. Kyle couldn't help himself but fear that if he said anything it would come out as a squeak or any other noise. As they parted ways Caspian smiled at Kyle and ran in the direction of his house.
