Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, The Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him Nor Sleep. His are all things In the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede In His presence except As he permits? He has the knowledge of What (appears to His creatures As) Before or After or Behind them. Nor shall they compass Aught of his knowledge Except as He wills. His throne extends Over the heavens And on earth, and He flees No fatigue in guarding And preserving them, For He is the Most High. The Supreme (in glory)

Significance:

Holy Quran 2: 255 (Cite/ Resource)

This Dua is also called "Ayat-al Kursi" (Verse of the Throne) and is the 255th verse in the 2nd chapter of the Holy Quran, Surah (Chapter) Al-Baqarah (the Cow). It said to be (worth) a fourth of the Quran (because of its significance) and is the loftiest ayat (verse) in the Quran.

It is said that whoever reads this Dua in the Morning (after waking up) will be protected from the evil of Jinnats (evil people, jin's, satans.)

Also, there is a specific story about Ayat-al Kursi (Verse of the Throne) and it is narrated by Abu-Hurairah (a companion of the prophet) and has many different interpretations. To sum, it talks about him seeing a man (either he was in a strange animal-like form or he was stealing) and Abu-Hurairah says to the man "I'm taking you to the Prophet" the man then in-turn says, "Don't take me to him and I will tell you a few words that will benefit you. Read Ayat-al Kursi before you sleep and Allah will protect to you from Satan until dawn." Abu-Hurairah let him go and when he told the Prophet of the interaction, the Prophet commented, "Although he told you the truth, he is a liar (either from stealing or from the fact that he was satan); and it was Satan."
