Family time

I wake up, my mouth open, my scream filling the air. I am panicked, and it takes me a few seconds to register where I am. I lay back down, with my hands on my head.

"Just a dream. Just a dream." I repeat over and over in barely a whisper. But I know this is false. Demigods have visions, not dreams.

"No, no, no, no." I whisper, recalling the dream of my mother and little sister Beth. I get up, thankful for the ambrosia I was fed, and walk out of the building. The night's air is crisp on my skin, and I make my way hurredly to the big house. Chiron will know what to do.

"I cannot offer you any knowledge on what is happening. The gods will not be happy. Go to your family and help them." Chiron says, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. I nodd once and then nodd again.

"I'll leave tonight." I say. He nodds his head in approval and I walk out of the big house. I walk back towards the Hepaetus cabin to gather my things. I include my daggers, a rations pack, and a little trinket I have been working on. I place one of my daggers in my right boot, another in the left, one on one side of my belt and the remaining two on the right side. Whith that all set, I tread carefully, not wanting to wake anyone, or to explain what is happening.

I walk quietly towards the gate. I get to the weapons arena, where we practise our sword play. I take a deep breath. Someone grabs my hair and yanks my head back while they press a sword to my throat. Quickly reacting to the surprise attack, I grab their arm, yanking it backwards into a hold, before tossing the person over my shoulder so they were infront of me, on the grass, hissing in pain. I smirk.

"You know, you shouldn't be attacking random people." I smile. He rolls over to face me, and I feel my heart beat in my chest. Zach. I rush to his side to see if he is okay. In one swift movement, he grabs my arm and rolls me, so I am underneath him. I feel myself blush, even though I've done wrestling with plenty of guys before.

"Damn you! Always good at acting!" I curse just loud enough for him to hear. He laughs, seeming to find it funny.

"Aww, doesn't Nyss like being beaten?" He asks all too innocently. He has my hands pinned behind my head. I quickly and swiftly swing my arm over and roll sideways before pushing away from him with my legs. I unsheath my knife and wait in a cat-like position, ready to pounce. Zach does the exact same thing. We pause waiting for the other to pounce. He pounces first and I counter attack. He lunges I step to the side and counter attack.

"What are you doing out here all on your own, and with your travelling gear?" He asks looking at the bag, now discarded on the ground. I scoff.

"You know how much I pack when I go away, certainly less than what you pack."

"So you are going away?" He asks. I groan, curse my babbling mouth. He grabs hold of my singlet and our fight turns into a wrestling match. He finally pins me to the ground, placing himself on top with my hands pinned sturdily behind my head this time. I try to move, but his weight keeps me down.

"Curse you!" I say, a little too loudly.

"Now, now Nyssa, no need to alert the Harpies. So tell me where are you heading off to?" He asks in a hushed tone.

"I need to visit my family, something..... Something bad has happened to them. Chiron knows." I say, spluttering on my words. A single tear spills out from the corner of my eye. Zach lets go of one of my arms and wipes the tear gently with his finger. He gets up, and pulls me up with him.

"If there's anything you need, just let me know." He says, before releasing my hand and retreating back into the darkness.

I pay the driver, and walk towards the middle of the bus. Only a couple of teens are on. I can tell they are all friends, by the way they sit on the back seat and chatt excitedly. I had caught a taxi into the city, and it was nearing midnight. I close my eyes and rest my head against the window. Something hits me in the back of the head. I jerk upright, and raise my hand to the sticky glob that had hit me smack in the middle of my hair.

"Hey looser, trying to runaway from your mummy?" They laugh at me. I sigh, just what I need. I get up and walk towards them and finally stopping right infront of them. My hand clenches the seat.

"At least I'm not going home to my mummy and being a good little child now, unlike some people. And in case you obviously don't get it, because your brain is pea-sized, leave me alone." I growl through gritted teeth before leaving them alone. This time I sit further up the front.

The last of the teens get off the bus, the leader. He gives me the death stare as he walks past me. I smile, knowing it will only piss him off, but does it look like I care! The bus door rattles closed and the bus takes off again.

The bus chutles to a stop, just opposite a fruit stall in the middle of nowhere. The engine splaters, and gurgles, but I know, I won't be going anywhere soon on this bus. It has broken down. Just my luck. I hop off and walk over to the fruit stall. An old woman sits on a rocking chair behind a counter. I look closely, and she transforms. She transformes into one of the fates. She raises a finger, and draws it across her throat. I grab hold of my throat, and run out of the stall. I am going to die!?
