"geong min? i- what? i wasn't expecting you here- ahjumma? what?" my eyebrows furrow at the two woman standing bright faced at my door.
"we wanted to come and apologise for namjoon yesterday- he wasn't as polite as he should've been" geong min bows at me. i do my best not to gasp in surprise.
she wasn't never nice like this before.
"min actually insisted that we come to apologise for his behaviour" ahjumma smiles fondly at the younger girl, and then to me.
"i hope we aren't intruding" min almost pushes past me, i bow at ahjumma and rush after her.
"it's messy in here- is that your wash basket?" she points to the half full clothes carrier and i nod. before i can say anything she starts storming around my lounge, her hands scooping up all the dirty clothes on the floor and dumping them in the basket.
"i like your flat- but i don't want mother seeing all your dirty laundry" she tilts her head slightly and smiles at me; her expression hinting towards fondness, but her general aura suggesting something more devilish.
"oh my- this place is just so- so quaint and amazing" ahjumma smiles just as sweet as usual towards me, her hands clasped around a small paper bag.
"it's quite small- but it's as good as i'm going to get" i take a second before motioning towards the sofa. they both sit.
"and why's that honey? aren't you working successfully now?" ahjumma reaches over and takes one of my hands. she's trying to make this into an emotional thing, but it's not.
"i am, i'm working okay- i just- i don't know- i have a very bad credit rating from past times"
"your mothers expenses right?" geong asks, already full well knowing the answer. her eyes drive into me like a knife, her judgemental stares fuelling my suspicions of alternative motives.
"yes- my credit isn't very good because of her" i bow my head at her and she smiles almost in triumph.
"i- sorry but can i use your ladies room?" geong says suddenly and i nod.
"it's just through my bedroom there" i point to the semi open door just past my kitchen, she nods before standing up and walking away.
"i just want you to know" ahjumma starts talking again, "i'm very proud- no matter how well my children have done- you've always been like a second daughter" she squeezes my hand again and i smile sweetly.
"do you want a drink?" i stand up and look down at her, she nods.
"just water for me" she smiles back at me and i bow slightly. i walk over to the kitchen, my eyes staying very closely on the door.
she never went into the bathroom, i never heard the door shut. i walk over to the surface nearest the door and pretend to do something, but instead look very slyly into my room. i see geong standing over my desk reading something out of a box.
reading the letters.
her hands move and quickly stuff the letters in her pocket, her eyes not even bothering to check who's around her.
i want to stop her,
but a part of me wants him to see them.
