“Declan. Declan wake up! You need to see this!”
I groaned. “What?”
“Get up!” she smacked me in the face with a pillow.
“Ow! Okay okay I’m up I’m up.” I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I reached over and grabbed my glasses off the dresser. Weird. I don’t remember taking them off.
“What did you want to show me?”“Look.” She pointed at the T.V. It was on the news chanel, telling a story about a missing kid. Cassie turned the T.V. up so I could hear it better. I then realized the missing kid story was about me.
“He was last seen yesterday at school. He left to walk home and suddenly
disappeared. No traces were left behind. The police say that they currently have no leads on where the kid may be. If you have any information on his whereabouts contact the police immediately.”They had a picture of me with my name underneath it. The newscaster kept going on giving useless details on where I could possibly be. I grabbed my phone to look through the notifications. There it was. An amber alert with my name.
“Well shit.” I spoke suddenly.
“What do we do?”
“We’ve got to lay low,”
Cassie sat down on the bed. “We could always give you a makeover?”
“I’m am not completely changing my appearance for this. Absolutely not.”
“Then you don’t have too. We can just buy you some different clothes. Maybe hat. How badly do you need those glasses?”
“I need them to drive.”
“Well then you can wear them then. And only then.”
I sighed. “Fine. Let's go shopping.”
We grabbed our stuff and checked out of the hotel. We quickly made our way to the car. I got it started and began pulling out of our parking space.
“There was a store a couple blocks behind us.” Cassie said pointing down the street we first came from.
“What store?”
She thought for a moment. “It had a weird name.” She thought about it again. “I think it was called, ko-holes?”
I laughed. “I think you mean Kohl's.”
“But there was an h in the name.”
“Its silent.”
“Then what's the point of having the letter there in the first place?”
I smiled. “Welcome to the english language sweetheart.” I said pulling into the Kohl’s parking lot.
We got out of the car and began to walk to the front of the store. We reached the automatic doors and Cassie reached out to open the door. Before she could even reach
the door it opened. Cassie jumped back terrified, falling down.I broke out laughing. Cassie glared at me.
“Are you done?” She said angrily.
I held up my index finger. “Give me a minute.” I wheezed.
Cassie got up off the ground, but stayed away from the doors as if they were going to come alive and attack her.
“How did they open on their own like that?”
I managed to pull myself back together, finally catching my breath.
“Motion sensors.”
“What?”
