I called up Ellie from the diner, where Zayn thought we should get our grumbling stomachs full with. And she had all forgotten about her little promise, as expected.
"You know what? It's really mean on my part so, umm, I'll catch you in half hour. I'm pretty close by," she had said, in what I would say, a genuinely remorseful tone.
"What about the brunch date?" I replied on Zayn's phone, which I had borrowed for just one call.
"I'll just cancel. I and him can sure hang out sometime later."
"No. No. Ellie, it's fine. Only few stuff is remaining. You saw the mess, didn't you? I'll manage. Don't worry, okay? Enjoy with Niall."
So while I had been having my own crazy adventure last night, she and him had a lot of 'fun'. I was still having a hard time understanding what kind of 'fun' this was but I didn't really want to think too much. My head was hurting like an elf nailing a pin into it anyway. Also, they were on a brunch date which pretty much says they were together all night. Okay, hold it in Nancy Drew.
"Are you sure? Niall wouldn't mind if I cancelled on him."
"No. It'll be fine. I'll manage. Seriously now."
I end the call as fast as I could because really, I could just use that energy on cleaning out my room.
"So," Zayn interrupted my train of thoughts. "You've been quiet."
His gaze upon me suggested I were some lab rat that he was studying for it's behaviour.
"I wish Ellie hadn't cancelled, you know." I mumbled lazily waiting for our ordered food to arrive.
"Cancelled what?"
He had decided upon a chicken cheese burger with fries although I insisted it was way too soon in the day to feast on anything as heavy as that. Even I had a craving for some spicy spaghetti but I normally have a hard time digesting some of the spices. I ordered waffles, with fat free whipped cream instead.
"I'm moving out and I have a lot of packing to do. And Ellie promised she'd help, before the party. And now something between him and Niall happened and they're on a date. I didn't want to be the bitchy best friend and have Niall hate me for taking all of Ellie's time. But I just, ugh." At the sight of our food arriving, my mouth watered. "I'm famished. And it's probably affecting my brain."
Zayn laughed before getting his fork and knife ready.
"The feeling is mutual, trust me."
We munched on our meals in silence. Not out of choice but out of hunger, a perk of being human--you have to eat almost every six hours. We relished in the flavours and once the waitress was back to get our plates away, we spoke again.
"I actually have nothing bright to do today and," Zayn initiated. "I could help you. If you want."
"Really? I mean I take you're as tired as I am, maybe even more." I giggled as I hint at James getting his revenge at him.
"No. I spoilt your party. It's the least I could do to make up."
"If you have to put it that way, I have one thing to say to you."
"What?" He smiled at me.
"You are hired."

Zayn went back to his place to freshen up leaving me alone with all the mess. He was to arrive in two hours and then we would start. Actually, now as I sat in my room assessing the scene in front of me, I realised there wasn't much left of what was needed to be done. My clothes were boxed up and ready. So were my books, course ones; the small personal library of my shelf still remained. My stuffed toys, which were in abundance, were scattered across the bottom of my so called closet. Then just small stuff remained like few photo frames, make up tools, my stamp collection and loads of other crappy irrelevant stuff that could blindly be cramped up in just one brown box.
