Artwork is a skill anyone can master it's just the thought that counts when you put in the effort to create something as mesmerizing as art.

Sketching is key in art. Without a reference or a practice sketch art can sometimes be out of focus or turn out not how we expect it to. That's why sketching is always a good option. Especially while drawing people or animals you want them sketches to not just be standing or sitting but to give them motion like the sketch above. When a sketch has motion it can tell a story or give a perspective on what the subject is doing.

Flat colors. When doing any type of art you want to make sure that color is being applied. This gives the viewer a more lively experience while overlooking your work. While color is a nice touch try to add shading to give a drawing more depth and feel. Shading not only gives depth but can also help with motion depending on how the subject is drawn or where you want light to be coming from to create shadow.

(Final Project)
As seen above by adding shading, lineart, and color the drawing is breathtaking and eye captivating make the viewer want to see more or be interested in your work. If the drawing in the end is not what your looking for don't be afraid to try editing the photo like adding lighting, glow, grain, darkness, blur affects etc... affects can be a good make to make viewers focus on a certain part of a drawing.
