Mila jumped out of the bus. School trip to an amusement park in a new place, it was a recipe for disaster. She lifted her shades up and tied her flannel shirt at her waist, looking up at the sky and heaved a heavy sigh. She missed home, she missed her friends. She was the new student here during her senior year and it honestly couldn't get worse.

The teacher was yelling out instructions for all the students and she just wanted to get out of there. Everyone was asked to get in pairs, and since every other student already had a best friend they got together by themselves. Mila just stood there kicking the dirt under her feet, when he walked up to her.

Him, the school jock,  Aidan. Mila had seen him the very first day and smiled at him, trying to introduce herself and he just ignored her and walked away.

She rolled her eyes, "What do you want?"

"Whoa whoa", he replied raising his hands in surrender, "You need a partner and I was going to join you. There's no need to get snappy about it".

"Fine lets go", she mumbled as he led the way with her trudging behind.

"What do you want to go on first?", he asked her, scanning all the rides"

"The roller-coaster", pat came her reply.

"No. Not a chance"

"Someone scared?", she smirked.

"Pffft no, what are you talking about?", he said fidgeting.

"Are you okay?", she asked softly

"Yeah. Now what ride do you want to go on?", he replied not meeting her gaze.

"How about we just walk around and talk? I want to have a friend", she smiled.

"Yeah, that sounds perfect", he smiled back

A few hours later, they were strolling around the park, eating kettle corn and sharing soda. They were laughing about something he said.

"Really? How did you manage to lose your shoes in the bathroom?!", she giggled

He laughed too,"I don't know! But how did you manage to think that you could survive on just candy for the whole day?!".

She just laughed, it felt nice to finally have made a friend after so long.

"We still haven't gone on any rides", she whined. "Can we please go on the roller-coaster now? Pretty please?!", she gave him the puppy eyes.

He groaned, "Fine, but you promise you'll go with me?"

"Obviously, genius. Otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it", she said dragging him toward the ride.

As they were being strapped in she looked at him and saw his knuckles turning white from how tight he was holding the buckles.

"Hey, You okay?", she said softly, getting no answer as the ride began. She reached out and held is hand watching his eyes close and they stayed closed for the entirety of the ride.

"I'm never going on a coaster again", he said as they walked back to the bus that evening.

"I'm sorry I made you go with me when you clearly didn't want to", she apologized.

"Don't worry about that. I had plenty of fun today".

"Yeah, me too. We're unlikely friends".
