Help

The Hospital

         So I drowsily drove to the hospital, which was 20 miles from house trying to go over the speed limit with any cops not knowing.  I was trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes to get my body my alert to what his parents were going to say next. I can tell you now that I was not expecting at all especially he should have at his house doing some family thing like they always have on Thursday nights.  But right I don’t care, as long he is okay.

As I pull into the parking lot I try to dry my tearstain face while I run to the emergency end of the hospital, which is quite a jog. I finally got there to see his parents and little brother there all huddle trying to keep in there emotions from coming all out at once. His mom looked up and saw me, getting up for a hug and I didn’t know if I could keep in my emotions but I kind of managed with a few tears escaping.

I have gotten really close with his family lately especially his brother because he is Robbie’s age. And when Sam would have games his brother and I would share nachos and watch together admiring Sam together. His brother name is Liam and he really admires his big brother and is almost a mini me of him, which I think is adorable. He even does all of the sports like Football, Basketball, and Baseball. I can't believe how crushed his little heart is about this especially him being so young.

I finally let go of Lily’s warm embrace from our hug. She told not to call her ma’am because it was to formal for her and wanted to call her by her first name. I walked over and pulled up a chair next to Liam to here the news.

“He is surgery still. They are fixing some broken ribs that might have punctured his lung. He also has broken leg and then a severe concussion that will be a major contributor to all of this,” his dad Edward said in like one breath it seemed.

“ So when will he be out of surgery?” I said shakily.

“ Um, he went in about an hour ago and the nurse said it would take 2 hours or so. Now we will have an hour till we know any more. But I don’t know if you will see him when he gets out because he probably be in ICU till he wakes up and can breath on his own.”

“Okay.” Right now I just wanted him alive and well, so I can day or two can wait to see him. But now its time to get comfy in the barely padded waiting room chairs and wait for the doctor to come out.

I wake up to Liam shaking me and I can see the doctor couple feet away talking to Edward and Lily. They both are nodding in agreement, but the good thing is that there isn’t any major crying between them. The doctor then shakes their hand as he gets back to his busy job and then Lily and Edward sit in front of Liam and I.

“ So the doctor said that there wasn’t any lungs punctured by his broken ribs. His leg will also be okay and just needs time to heal like all other broken bones. So he is breathing on his own but is still not coherent due to his concussion, which also didn’t cause major damage to his brain. Right now anyone can visit not just family. But Capri Lily and I are going to go in first then we get Liam and then you.” Edward tried to keep calm not to freak us out with all the medical terms he was saying. He and Lily hugged Liam and went back. And I am so glad Sam is okay.
