The day before Christmas Eve, 3:45 pm.
I get a call from my lovely assistant Charlotte to go down to my boss's office before the end of the day. Oh, the joys of working on a Christmas break, everyone wants to be home but we need to get work done before Christmas. If my fellow co-workers would stop slacking off we wouldn't be here right now.
I am high ranking in this office building. My department is management, which is the main portion of the business. We give our clients all the exposure they need to be successful. We have helped a wide range of clients from big businesses and starting out actors.
I knock on my boss Jeff's door three times.
"Come in."
I come in the fanciest office I've ever seen, even though I'm in here on the daily I still get struck in awe. I close the door with a soft click behind me and sit across from him.
"You needed me?" I ask a little too impatiently.
"Ah Jenn, yes I wanted to discuss-"
Three knocks on the door behind me.
"Come in"
I don't turn around, it's probably some foolish worker who doesn't know what to do.
"Please take a seat, Ashton."
Perfect.
Ashton is my absolute rival. He seems sweet and innocent enough but I know he's the one that takes my tea bags from the breakfast bar in the lunch room. He works on the other side of the office building from me but we have to work together on a lot of projects.
He's the head of advertising, which is the second biggest portion of our business. We disagree on a lot of decisions and I'm pretty sure we have a mutual hate for each other.
"Jeff if this is about us arguing a lot I don't want to hear it," I state quickly.
"If it is I just want to say that I respect your decision to let one of us go." Ashton gives me a smile, I scowl in response.
"Children, children." Jeff laughs, "it's nothing about that, I just need you two to work tomorrow."
"I'm sorry this is a joke right?" I laugh.
"I'm afraid not, your arguing actually did set us back and you two need to figure out what to do for the ads for the new years party at the black rabbit now."
"So it is about us arguing," Ashton sighs.
"I suppose so, I'll pay you both double as long as you don't kill each other." Jeff laughs again.
"Okay, that's it? I'd like to get to my family sometime this Christmas." I say as I start to stand.
"Yes yes, you may go." Jeff waves a hand to dismiss us.
Christmas Eve, 12:30 pm.
I walk into the office building late due to the icy roads this morning. I am greeted by none other than Ashton.
"You're three hours late" He states with his arms crossed and maybe his foot taping who knows.
I walk by him and without glancing up I say "The roads were icy, wasn't expecting it." I walk over to my office and place my bag down on my desk. I sit down in my chair and start opening up my bag filled to the brim with documents.
He raises his voice "You can't expect me to wait for you instead of spending time with my family."
"I have a family too" I shoot back.
