Your eyes widen. "You're Amelie's boyfriend?"
The man nods. "Yes. And my name is Aaron, by the way." Aaron looks around the shop. "Where is Amelie anyways?"
"She's most likely in the back, sir. It's closing time and she has to change. But I'm sure she will be out momentarily.""Okay." The two of you sit in awkward silence for a minute, until the back door opens and Amelie exits.
"Thanks for helping, (Y/N). Your performance was great again." She sighs, finishing the bun that holds all her hair. "I really need to get on Leeah about taking work seriously. Anyways, see you tomorrow." Amelie finally looks up, eyes widening. "Aaron? What are you doing here?"
"I was here for most of the day, babe." Aaron nods to you. "(Y/N) here woke me up not long ago and told me you were closing. Care to walk home together?"
You smile, quietly slipping out to change back into your normal clothes. When you get back out, Amelie and Aaron are still there, now in what appears to be an argument. "I'm going now. Bye." You slip past the couple, pulling out your phone and opening your contacts list. You smile softly as a text from Yoongi comes in.
my love <3: i hope work was well tonight. lily cooked us some kimchi jjigae(quite badly but its the thought that counts) for dinner. i think shes mad at jimin. she didnt talk to him or look at him all night. but its okay. im going to sleep now. hope is currently curled up on my chest so i guess im sleeping on my back tonight. hoseok fell asleep watching cookie play so im the only one awake, i think. namjoon i think went to sleep. or hes on the balcony. but anyways stay safe and feel free to call me when youre on your way back. i trust this friend of yours to keep his hands off you. i love you baby. goodnight
You: goodnight yoongi. love you too. And josh hasnt pulled anything except for when we were dating in high school and a bit into college. your precious is fine. see you tomorrow morning. i have off tomorrow, so we can spend the day together. sleep well.
As soon as you send your text, you call Josh. It rings twice before he picks up. "On my way. Be there in about thirty seconds." The call ends, and you hear a car pull up. Slowly, the car stops in front of you, and you hop in. "Told you."
You laugh. "You've never been wrong." You pause, a devilish smirk spreading across your face. "Except for on one of our dates when you said you were brave enough to go on that one rollercoaster with six loops and a few huge drops without puking. That was gross."
Josh rolls his eyes. "Never gonna let it go, huh?"
"No! You ruined my favorite sweatshirt!" The two of you laugh, falling into a comfortable silence. "Remember when I left a few years ago?"
Josh nods. "Yeah. You quit your job here at the bakery and said that something else came up. Your exact words were 'I'm so sorry to quit, but something better came up. It's something I really need. I also need to get away from the town where the person who I thought would love me forever cheated on me and dumped me. I don't know if I'll be back, or if I will come back, when.' Amelie literally fired three people who said your name. She was pissed off."
"Well yeah, I would be too, if my best friend suddenly moved halfway across the world for work. But did I tell you why?"
"Nope."
"Remember the song I sang the day I came back to the bakery?" Josh nods. "Well, it's a song written by the band I worked for. The band is Korean, and they're called BTS. Pretty successful, and have a huge and growing fanbase. Did I tell you why I came back?"
"Nope. I didn't want to ask either, considering you didn't come back to the shop for a few weeks and when you did you looked like hell. I figured something must've happened with work. Was it the car accident your mom told us about?" Josh pulls into a Waffle House and turns off the car, turning to face you.
"Kinda. I actually ended up joining the K-Pop group but ended up getting into a huge fight with the members over something stupid. I did the thing I always do. Y'know, the whole 'running away like a baby without no warning.'" You sigh, twirling the ring on your middle finger.
"I still can't believe it was three years before they finally decided to surprise me and visit. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm so happy that they're back, especially seeing one of them again, but I'm still a bit hurt over the things they said" You sigh, unbuckling your seatbelt. "But that's a long story for another time. C'mon, let's go in." You get out of the car, grabbing your phone and pulling your trench coat closer to your shivering frame.
Josh comes over to you and wraps an arm around you, pulling you close. The workers look up as the two of you enter, one of them jumping up to hand you menus. "Two orders of hashbrowns with cheese, one of the orders with two hashbrowns and the other with just one. And two hot chocolates with whipped cream." You slip into the booth, still in Josh's embrace.
"We're inside now, you can let me go." Josh quickly moves his arm, face burning red. You smile. "Don't get flustered on me now. You've known me since high school and we've done worse than hugged." A laugh bubbles its way out of your throat, and you sigh, leaning into Josh's side. "Nah, but it was nice being hugged like that. Like not in a romantic way but a friend way."
"Oh, really? You don't like romantic hugging?"
"Well, considering the only romantic hugging I got was from you and you are the worst at it, no I don't." A mug of hot chocolate is set down in front of you, and you grab it, thanking the waitress. The liquid is warm, and you close your eyes blissfully. "This is always good."
"So, the certain person you were glad to see, how long have you been together?"
The sip of hot chocolate you were taking flies down your windpipes, and you slam the mug on the table, spluttering and coughing violently. You can feel your face burning, and the smirk Josh has doesn't help. Between coughs, you manage a weak "what the fuck." Finally, once you can breathe again, you glare at Josh. "What the fuck. What made you think I was dating one of them?"
"Your phone kept going off in the car and the screen read 'my love' with a heart emoji every time you got a text." You turn on your phone, shocked to see about twenty messages all from Yoongi waiting to be read. "How long?"
"Since they got back, I guess. A few days, I think like two."
"And you're already on I love you and pet names? You sure you weren't dating before?"
"Pretty sure, considering he was one of the main reasons why I left." You fall silent, the memories swirling through your head. "But some of it was my fault." Your voice comes out in a murmur, barely heard by even your own ears.
"What happened?"
You stay quiet, looking into your mug. "It's a story for another time." Josh lets it go, but throughout your late night dinner, he keeps looking over at you. "Josh, I'm fine. You can stop looking at me with those pity-filled eyes."
"I wasn't-"
"It's fine. Can you just take me home now?" You set your fork down, looking up at your friend. "I'm tired."
"(Y/N), you barely ate a bite of your food!" Josh is right; your hashbrown is almost all there, minus a small piece off of the edge. "You'll be hungry later. Eat a bit more?"
You shake your head. "I just want to go home, Josh."
