Chapter 2: The Wife

A little girl waiting at the edge of a backyard pool for her parents to com out of the house to watch her. Her auburn curls rolled daintily down her back to her shoulder blades. Her 6th birthday was in 2 weeks and she was very excited. Unbeknown-st to the girl, her parents had decided to enroll her in a swim class for her birthday, since she loved being in the water so much.

The girl sees a bird land on the opposite side of the pool, that then stared at her with a cocked head. The little girl wants to play with the bird so bad, its red feathers flashing at her in the sunlight, begging to be touched. The little girl climbs into the pool by the ladder handing onto the side of the pool to drag herself towards the bird. Her hand suddenly slips and she plunges into the bottom of the pool Frightened by the sudden splash, the cardinal flies away, only to be mauled by a cat later that day as penance to what he did to the little girl.

The no longer girl wakes up 25 years later from a nightmare about drowning. Outside the heavy, pelting rain raps on the bedroom window. Looking down into the bed, she sees her husband breathing shallowly, still deep asleep. Finally relaxed the looks at the alarm clock which reads 4:30 A.M. she slips out of bed and starts her morning rituals. By the time her husband wakes up, breakfast is made and she is sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. He walks up to her and gives her a quick hug before eating breakfast.

They both get into a car together to go off to work. she starts to get nervous in the traffic when she sees cars starting to slide. While waiting at the light, they talk about what they are doing for dinner and other little things. When the light turns green, they start moving through the intersection slowly to avoid hydroplaning. Suddenly lights blare through the passenger window, preceding the hood of a yellow cab that smashes into the door. Horns honk and alarms go off as the woman looks down at her body with an awkward twist of her neck. Her right arm is bent at 3 different angles and she can't see her legs; her head son't move that much. She looks over at the drivers side and gently wipes the blood away from her husbands face. While she is tending to him as best she can, she slowly drifts off into the darkness.

She hears a doctor talking about her condition to someone in the room, but her eyes won't open and her body won't move to comfort her sobbing husband. She feels his fingers tracing the contours of her face and inside she tears up. As she feels the breathing machine pumping oxygen into her lungs, the air gets harder to breathe. Some sort of fluid is bubbling into her lungs, slowly drowning her. She panics, wanting to tell her husband to save her, not wanting to drown trapped in her own body. She didn't want to leave him but slowly she was pulled from her body. She calmed down as she neared the gates. When they opened to her, she felt a great peace flow through her and she knew she would never have any fears about water or drowning again.

Hey tell me what you're thinking about the story so far, I've got a good idea how to get things going and how to end it but I'm always up for some input.
