The day of the launch couldn't have come any slower. Rebekah just wanted to get the mission over with. She wanted to get Johnny out of her head, but everyone knew that was impossible.

During the first month without any contact with him, Rebekah stayed in bed all day with her fingers curled around the necklace he had given her. she wasn't about to drop him just like that. Rebekah and Johnny were best friends ever since they were introduced when Reed and Sue first started dating when Sue was seventeen and Reed was twenty. Rebekah was eleven and Johnny was thirteen when they met. A friendship that lasted for ten years shouldn't just disappear, but it did, and Rebekah was left broken.

During the morning of the launch, Rebekah was rushed. She had stayed up all night working on things for the mission with Reed--last-minute stuff. She originally wanted to back out of the mission because of Johnny, but Reed wouldn't let her because he was facing Sue. Rebekah couldn't call chicken shit on him if he was calling chicken shit on her.

"Reed! Are you up?" Rebekah shouted as she hurried into the kitchen, her socked feet sliding on the floor.

Her uncle shot up from his sleeping spot on the couch, his hair disheveled and papers falling from his chest. "Yep."

Rebekah grabbed two travel mugs from the cabinet, pouring coffee into each of them. With her mug, she added creamer. Usually, Reed would have remarked, "Would you like a little more coffee with your creamer?" But this time, he completely disregarded the question as he checked the time--they were late.

With her travel mug in one hand and an apple in the other, Rebekah ran out of the door of the Baxter Building with Reed in pursuit. Her hair was damp from the shower she had taken, and she didn't have time to pick out an outfit, so she wore the low-rise jeans from yesterday and a new t-shirt paired with her Vans.

Ben pulled up to the launch site at the same time as Reed and Rebekah. After getting out of their cars, they glanced up at the shuttle in awe before heading up. They're handed safety helmets to wear while they're outside because they--particularly Reed and Ben--wanted to watch for Johnny's arrival. Rebekah could have cared less, but she was dragged into it. Ben pulled out three pairs of binoculars, handing two of them to Rebekah, who passed one down to Reed. She leaned against the rails on her elbows, and Reed and Ben copy. Something appeared in the distance.
