Departure For Good Cause?

"Sonia, dear, where are you going?" Adelaide asked nervously, peering into her daughter's room with her son at her shoulder.

"I'm going to become a different person, mother," she replied curtly, flinging items into a simple bag. She disregarded the mementos or decorative things and settled on bringing along not much more than her sorcery components, traveling gear and a change of clothes.
"That doesn't mean anything, please, what are you even thinking of doing?" the boy asked.
"Listen up, Charter, I'm leaving to reach greatness you could never imagine, let alone dream of achieving. Don't even stoop to think for a second that ungifted wretches like you could stop me," she spat.
"There's no need to be unkind to your brother," Adelaide said, almost shaking now, "what are you even wearing?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" she dodged the question, twirling in her new soft blue robes in front of her mirror. Truthfully, it wasn't the kind of thing she found to her tastes, but one could adjust to anything for the right reasons. She ran a hand through her feathery hair once and turned back to face them. Their expressions were hard to read.

"Be honest," she mumbled, "you'll be glad to have me gone."
"No- of course not!" Adelaide instinctively blurted at the same time as Charter's indignant "how could you think that?"
Sonia chuckled grimly.
"Even if you don't think you think so now, you'll end up finding my absence reassuring sooner or later," she said, "well, I don't think anyone's expecting teary goodbyes so I'll just be on my way. Give father and Morning my best regards, alright?"

As she pushed her way past them and their protests, she looked at them one last time and gave them the biggest brightest smile she could muster.
"This is the start of something wonderful, so let's all do our best, okay?" she exclaimed, her voice light and sweet.
Two pairs of confused eyes followed her back as it disappeared from sight.
