Controlling Nature

Prologue

Legend says that a long time ago, a farmer and his wife found a way to control nature's power. Before they passed away they made six coins, one for each of their children. Every coin possesed one of nature's powers. The first and most powerfull was spirit. The second one and also very powerfull was weather. The other four were the elements: earth, wind, water and fire. The coins were passed on generation after generation and eventually ended up in dusty attics all over the world.

I hate mondays

If it wasn't bad enough that it was a monday, it was very cold outside and I lost my favorite sweater. I stormed into my sister's room and yelled "where is my school sweater?!!" My sister Lea (14) looked up from her laptop and said "I don't know, last time I saw it it was in the attic!" 'How the hell did it get up there?' 'how am I supposed to know ?!' she replied. and threw a book at my head. Geez, someone's on their period. I went to the attic to look for my sweater. I switched on the lights and looked for my sweater. After a few minutes I saw it lying on the other side of the attic. Great, now I have to get over all this crap to get to my sweater, and I'm already late for the schoolbus. Guess I'm going to have to run again. I wasn't looking where I was going so I tripped over something. I fell and hit my on a little box I didn't know was even there. It must've been because I hit my head pretty hard but I picked up both the box and my sweater and put them in my bag. Then I hurried downstairs and ran to the busstop. Miraculously I caught my bus in time and I sat down next to my best friend in the whole wide world, Amy. She asked 'what's with the bump?' Before I could grab my mirror to look at the bump on my forehead the cutest guy in the whole school walked by, and he said hey to me! Amy answered by saying 'hey' back. Me on the other hand couldn't get a word out of my mouth. When he sat down at the back of the bus Amy woke me up by yelling 'droolalert!' I replied by pushing her so she almost fell of her chair. 'What was that for?' she said. I made a fake angry face and said 'what do you think?' She gave me a hug and we laughed the entire trip to school. Most people think we're weird and a little bit violent sometimes, but I guess that's what makes us best friends. When I went to my locker to put my books away I noticed that I still had the box in my bag. I opened the box and saw a beautiful and old coin, it had a very pretty lady engraved in it surrounded by letters in a language I couldn't read. I don't know what it was but I felt some strange connection to it. Then Amy pulled me out of my daydreams. 'Come on Zoey, we gotta hurry the bell rang five minutes ago!' We were just in time and took our seats right next to each other. Our teacher started the lesson by announcing that for this years school trip there were three cities we could go to: Rome, Paris or Amsterdam. He said he would hand out a form where we could write down our choice. I looked at Amy and at the same time we said 'Rome, here we come!'
