================================
A p/c she - cat sat on a white picket fence. Her ears twitched at the crickets chirping in the summer twilight, and her e/c eyes looked into the forest. "Y/N? Are you okay?" Enter Smudge, a chubby black and white tom, wearing a red collar and looking at Y/N with concern in his yellow eyes. Y/N's eyes flickered to Smudge for a second, before looking back into the dark sky, stars beginning to appear in the midnight blue. "Just thinking," the she-cat shrugged.Smudge settled down beside Y/N, wrapping his tail around his legs. Her e/c eyes gazed back into the forest. "Smudge," She said softly. Smudge glanced at her, curiosity on his face. "Yeah?" The black-and-white tom tilted his head at the p/c p/p she-cat. He could see the reflection of the pine trees in her eyes, but her gaze looked miles away.
"Tell me that story," She whispered. Smudge flicked his ear, looking at Y/N, Intrest in his warm eyes. "Which one?" He asked kindly. Silence. Y/N continued to gaze into the distance, while Smudge shuffled his paws. He was quite used to the she-cat zoning out, but he still felt slightly awkward at times. What has her crazy amazing mind come up with now? Just a Smudge opened his mouth to ask the question again, Y/N snapped out of her daze. "Oh!" She said suddenly, and loudy. Quite a few birds, pigeons, perhaps, had been pecking at the ground not far off, and they had fluttered into the air at her exclamation, as Smudge jumped as well.
She glanced at her best friend, her e/c eyes now clearer and back in the now. "Tell me about Rusty again?" Y/N knew Smudge didn't excpect her to apologize for going off into fantasyland; he was used to her dream world. Smudge blinked at her, suprised. Why is she so curious about him? Y/N's house folk had moved her to this neighborhood a few moons after Rusty had left, and she had loved hearing his stories about the wild cats, and the forest. But Smudge didn't mind her obsession. It- just like her random daydreams- were one of the many things he loved about her.
Smudge had excepted his feelings about a moon before, when a new cat, Skip, had moved into the neighborhood, and Y/N had bombarded him with questions, wanting to know everything about what was ouside their small little neighborhood. Skip had been friendly enough, but it was then when Smudge realized, he was in love with her. The way her eyes glistened and her speech became faster when she got excited about something, as it had been then. He loved her little quirks that others thought made her odd, but he thought made her special. He loved how she wasn't afraid of the outside world, the way Smudge was. But she would never know. He could never be able to tell her. That was another difference between them- while Y/N was the bravest cat he had ever met, besides Rusty, Smudge was afraid of everything, including admitting his feelings. He always tried hiding his fears, trying to be totally calm, but- "Earth to Smudge," Smudge snapped out of his thoughts, to see Y/N slowly waving her tail in front of his face, her expression amused.
Smudge felt his fur burning. "And I thought I zoned out a lot," She teased him lightly, her e/c eyes glittering. Smudge lightly shuffled his paws. "Sorry," Y/N smiled at him. "It's fine," She shuffled slightly closer to him, until their fur was brushing. "Now tell me the story,"
XX LE TIME SKIPPIE XX
"Y/N, you aren't seriously going to go out into the forest?" Smudge asked his friend nervously. Y/N's e/c eyes glittered with excitement, and her p/c fur blew in the morning breeze. Smudge looked at her, his eyebrows furrowed into a concerned expression. "Yep," Y/N grinned at him. "But I'll be back at sunset, if not earlier," Smudge's shoulders tensed as he took in a breath. "Y/N, it's dangerous out there." He tried saying, but Y/N just laughed. Smudge's heard thudded at the sound. "Smudge, Rusty went out, and he joined the wild cats. And the biggest that's happened whenever someone from around here enters the forest, is over - exaggerated stories about how they were threatened for their lives, and then chased off, when in reality, they most likely just got a warning about it." Smudge rolled his eyes. True, Jimini and Pebbles's stories were most likely over exaggerated, but it didn't mean he wanted his best friend wandering into the forest- again. But this time, it was Y/N instead of Rusty. "I don't want you leaving me," he whispered under his breath. Y/N looked at him, her gaze softening. "I promise I'll be back," She whispered, her eyes never leaving his. She bent over and pressed her nose to his cheek, before taking a slight leap onto the forest floor. Smudge's heart leaped at the slight gesture of having her nose against his cheek, before he peered down at the she-cat below him, his fur still hot. Y/N looked back up at him, slightly amused. "I'll see you later," She called up, before bounding off into the forest.
