Draco and Ginny

The ball started with awkwardness because of the pairings made by the ministry. It was obvious that almost all of the former students were against the newest wizarding law. Especially the Slytherins and Gryffindors. A very good example of a bickering pair was Draco Malfoy and Ginevra Weasley who from the start, really hate seeing each other. Draco whistled at a passing Hufflepuff blonde who in return suppressed a giggle by biting her lip and winked at him. These gestures were not missed by Ginny's scrutinizing glimpses.

"I can't believe I'm standing here and wasting my time with a ferret flirt!" Ginny rolled her eyes and threw a reproachful glance at Draco.

"You're free to go any minute by now, Miss Weaselette. No one asks you to stay. I'd be happy to go out with anyone but you," Draco retorted.

Ginny didn't mind answering as she was very eager for the ball to end so she could go home and sleep. She was watching a dancing pair when someone touched her hand and whispered on her.

"Let's dance, Miss Weaselette. Might as well enjoy the party rather than wallow on our misfortune."

Before she could say anything, they were already at the center of the dance floor. Literally at the center. Draco picked to be the centerpiece of this night together with her. He put his arms around her waist and looked directly into her eyes. Maybe, it was some kind of magic because she felt the urge to close her eyes and leaned her head on his chest while still dancing. Everything was peaceful and solemn. It was like the others suddenly vanished and the only left were the two of them. They both tuned out from the outside world while savuoring the soft music.

Blaise and Hermione

"Let's dance, Mione," Blaise pleaded,  matching it with a  seductive fluttering of his eyelashes.

Hermione raised a brow at him.

"Shut up and don't call me Mione 'cause we're not friends."

"Of course we're not. We're future mom and dad. Please. Please.Ple-'

"Gross, Zabini. We're not going to be what you're thinking.'

"Why? Because you're gonna elope with Ron Weasel? I don't think so. Look. He's all cozy with Astoria," Blaise pointed at the sweet couple.

Hermione turned to look and her nose flared. She grabbed Blaise' hand and dragged him on the dance floor then put her hands around Blaise' neck. Blaise was momentarily amused but then grabbed the opportunity laid in front of him.

Ron and Astoria

"You really look wonderful tonight, Astoria. I'm so glad tonight."

It was the umpteenth time that Ron complimented Astoria's looks.

Everytime he praised her, she just couldn't help but smile and blush. Ronald Weasley was really fun to be with. He never ran out of stories and jokes. She was laughing the whole time she was with him. He often stole kisses on her cheeks then stared at her for a minute and would repeat the same compliment.

"Thanks. I like the song Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton."

"What? You like what by who?"

"Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. He's a muggle singer."

"Wait. You? A pureblood Slytherin like muggle stuff? How come?" Ron asked, bewildered.

"A long story. Some other time but a trivia from me. I'm a muggle school teacher. I teach little kids," Astoria informed him.

"Really? Can I go with you sometime? I'm really interested with muggle things, you know."

"Wow! Sure. Just tell me when."

"Tomorrow. I'll take the day off from work.'

"Cool. Fine. Tomorrow then."

After that, they shared a moment of silence on each other's arm.

Though the night started with awkwardness, the Great Hall of Hogwarts was now full with couples dancing along with the soft rhythm of the music.
