York sat up on the couch at the noise of her phone. It could be Tristan. She groped around the cushions for her phone, before she realized she hadn't brought it downstairs with her.
She hurdled over the couch and slid across the kitchen floor on socked feet.
Breathlessly, she lept across the hallway throw rug, landing on the bottom stair and taking them up four at a time (a new best).
Dashing down the upstairs hall, she heroically threw open her bedroom door and jumped all the way from the doorframe to her bed, where her phone innocently lay.
Flopping on to her stomach, York turned on her phone to read her newest notification, the cause for her to run a marathon through her house.

Tristan Bell:"Hey, are you free tomorrow?"
Was she free tomorrow? Well, if it meant she got to hang out with green eyed, curly haired Tristan, OF COURSE she was free tomorrow.
She bounced off her bed to shout down the hall.
"Hey mum! Mum, can I hang out with Tristan tomorrow?!"
...no response
With an exasperated sigh, York walked down the hall and leaned over the railing to yell downstairs to her mum in the kitchen.
"Can I hang out with Tristan tomorrow, mum?!"
"Tristan? Oh, yeah, Tristan. You'd have to be back by four for your sister's recital!" She called back.
York smiled, even though no one was around to see. "Thanks mum!"
She went back to her room and responded:
"Definitely
I can hang in the morning or early afternoon"
Still grinning from ear to ear, she flipped down on her bed and hugged a pillow to her chest.
She couldn't believe it. Life had never been better. Her crush (Tristan, obviously) was one of her close friends, and they constantly hung out, she had straight A's in school (no surprise there, she'd always been a little nerdy), and her best friend Lila was moving back to Virginia.
Lila's dad was in the military, so they moved a lot. She was finally coming home because her dad had served enough years to retire and get a monthly check for his services.

York scooped up her phone to read the notification.

Tristan Bell:"Awesome
I have a friend I want you to meet
How about we meet at the movies at one?"
A friend he wanted her to meet? That could mean anything. What if it was a girl that Tristan liked? What if it was a guy he wanted to set her up with? What if it was -
York took a deep breath. No. She thought. I won't worry about it. Chances are it's just a friend.
She looked back to her phone and typed:
"Sounds fantastic
See ya then!"
