{A/N}: SURPRISE IM STILL ALIVE :'D junior year sucks tho

Time seemed to stop. For such a simple and seemingly innocent sentence, you marveled to yourself, those words sure carried a lot of impact.

You stumbled away from Tae, eyes wide with confusion and swimming with tears at the memory.

"I- wha-," the words tumbled out of your mouth. "How is this something you know?"

Tae's pout grows even more. "Did you really think I'd forget a day like that? With you?" He sighs sadly, shaking his head. "Time sure is cruel. Even though we've only been gone for a few years, your memory of us has already diminished this much, hmm?" The other boys murmur in assent, looking on mournfully.

You shook your head frantically to deny the statement, tears streaming freely over your cheeks now. "N- no. It's not that." You swallowed thickly, trying not to choke up too much.

"It's just... this is too good to be true." You gave the boys a watery smile. "My friends are back and they're not dead after all these years- what more could I possibly hope for?"

There's a pause as the boys all stare at you awkwardly.

"Uh...," Namjoon started, clearing his throat uncomfortably. "It's not nearly as simple as that, (y/n)."

You stared at him blankly, as if you had no idea what that sentence implied. The telltale spark of fear in your eyes gave away the naive expression though- it was clear that there was a logical part of you which comprehended the extremely odd circumstances which under Namjoon and co. had appeared. You simply didn't want to acknowledge that fear.

Namjoon let out a slow breath. He knew he had to handle this carefully or he'd scare you away. Turning to the other boys, he gestured to the door.

"I'm going to explain our...situation to (y/n)," he worded cautiously. "Please leave the two of us be for a while, and don't return until I have asked for you."

Jimin looked as if he were about to throw hands and Tae's pout deepened into a scowl, but neither of them objected. They each have him a curt nod and headed towards the door, filing out of the room quietly and leaving Namjoon alone with you as requested. The door shut with a quiet click, and almost immediately Namjoon let out a breath of relief. Turning towards you, he took a seat in an armchair before gesturing towards the bed for you to sit down as well.

"This is going to be a long story, so do get comfortable."

---

"...remember how our parents used to tell of a gentle God, a God of creation and life?" Namjoon started, eyeing you curiously.

You hesitated, briefly wondering how this had anything to do with their situation. "The one referred to in Christianity?" You asked haltingly. Namjoon nodded.

"Yes, that one. Do you remember how it was said that he created mankind in his image as well?" A sense of unease began to well up in your stomach. "Yes...vaguely so."

Namjoon took a shaky breath, voice dark with anger and bitterness. "Well, I can tell you this."

"This God, or Creator, certainly did make mankind in his image. all the worst qualities we humans have today originated from the Creator's persona. Cruelty, greed, lust, wrath, you name it. All of these characteristics are imprinted onto our own personalities by the Creator himself."

Namjoon shuddered slightly, a light tremor passing through his body. "We are not a very kind race. And neither is the Creator himself," he says to you, eyes solemn. "One may think a being as ancient as him would grow to have an appreciation for life, to have some compassion or a sense of preservation over the millennia." He exhales harshly, eyes growing cold.

"Whoever thinks that is wrong."

"...What exactly do you mean?" You ask shakily, bracing yourself for the worse.

Namjoon tapped his chin lightly in thought. "Ah, put it this way. The Creator is like a tree, strong and reaching upwards to tower over all. But while his limbs are sturdy and powerful, most of him is twisted and gnarled with the wears and tears of time. Does that make sense?" He looks to you questioningly.

You slowly nod, the feeling of unease worsening. "You mean he's corrupted. He's not the ideal God most religions hail him as."

Namjoon gave a wry smile. "Yeah, pretty much."

You frowned. "That sounds-"

"Like it sucks ass?" Drawls an all-too familiar voice emanating from the spot right next to you. "Yeah, that's because it does."
