Most people think that there is only one race on earth, the human race. Every once and awhile you will get someone who thinks they saw something otherworldly, but then humans dismiss it as that person being mentally unbalanced.
What the majority of the humans don't realize is that the creatures that are dismissed as mythical, are in fact real. The Loch Ness monster, Big Foot, Yetis, Fairies, Elves. They are very much alive. It is extremely hard to hide a whole race of beings on this small planet, so it is understandable when some of creatures are exposed.
Unfortunately for us, there are humans that are just too curious for their own good. For example, Nessie appears a few times and more than tourists come looking. While governments officially do not believe in the existence of otherworldy beings; unofficially almost every government in the world has created their own secret facilities in order to research and contain these creatures.
Some of my kind are not as careful as they should be and they often get caught by humans. This is expected, after all how do you think the story of the leprechauns got created? The trouble starts when the humans won't return us back to our kind.
At first it wasn't anything super serious, just a few Fae jokers going missing, but then the humans got more curious. The humans weren't seen as a threat, more as a minor nuisance. But then they started to lead raids and ambushes to try and trap other Fae.
Pretty soon my people where being hunted by the humans. All the major world powers had created their own special task forces whose sole purpose was to hunt and research the Fae that were caught.
It has been a state of constant paranoia in the Fae world once these attacks started to happen. Parents would tell their kids to follow these simple rules:
1. Always travel in groups of three or more.
2. Never draw attention to yourself with your Fae abilities.
and the most important:3. Never, ever go looking for people who have been Taken.
Most Fae have enough sense to follow these rules, but not me. My mom called me Tessa Trouble or TT for short. As the name implies I often find trouble. When my best friend, Samantha, was Taken couldn't sit by and just watch.
My mom knew that and the second we were told that she had been Taken, I was locked in my room. What my mother failed to notice was that I had previously created my own personal escape hatch through the house vents.
I should have known that they would still be in the area looking for more Fae. I'm not really sure how they knew I was Fae, but either way it was only about a mile from my house, when I was shot full of tranquilizers. I would like to say that this was all part of my plan. That I was playing on getting caught and then taken to Sam's location. But I have always been an impulsive person, and as the world spun around me, my only thought was, "Damn it, I did it again. I should have thought this through a bit more."
I was vaguely aware that I hit the ground, and then the world went black.
