"are you warm enough?"

"yes, mum."

"do you have your books?"

"yes, mum."

the small boy looked up at his mother with warm eyes, a bright smile plastered upon his lips.

"all right, have a good day," she kissed his forehead, waving goodbye as she watched him run over to the other kids at the bus stop.

he turned to look at her with a smile, waving a goodbye in return before he disappeared into the group of other kids, weaving around the others and approaching the blonde boy.

"hey, jack," he smiled gently.

he'd known jack his whole life, their parents knew each other when they were in high school. he was glad to be able know someone so well.

"hey, georgie," the blonde smiled, gently nudging the brunette with his elbow.

"what'd you dream about last night?" george asked softly, a soft smile curving against his lips.

"running away," the blonde told him with a shrug, climbing onto the bus after it pulled up.

george followed after him, the two of them taking their seats; george against the window, and jack beside him.

"what from?" the brunette asked, tilting his head to the side as curiosity shone clearly in his eyes.

"here," the latter shrugged. "my house was chasing me, and it was terrifying. i ran faster than a cheetah in that dream, i swear on my life."

"that's scary!" george smiled with a shake of his head. "hope my house doesn't try and scare me away."

little did he know, three years later, jack would move away to california, and they'd never see each other again.

"i don't want you to go," he whined as he followed the blonde down the driveway, carrying a stack of boxes.

"i know, but it's not my choice. dad's found a good job that pays well down there," the blonde frowned, setting the boxes down on the pavement before turning to face the brunette.

he reached his arms out until the male leaned forward, bringing their bodies together in a tight embrace.

when george pulled away, there was a pair of hands cupping his face and jack's lips were against his own.

"i'll miss you." he heard him say.

george smiled softly with a sigh. "i'll miss you, too," he frowned, tears welling up in his eyes.
