"I'm done," you said.
"[Na-]"
The broken look in your eyes matched your voice, though he could tell you were trying to be angry. "I'm not doing this. You wanna keep up these mind games? Fine. But find someone else to play." You pushed your chair back and stood before walking to the door, leaving your half eaten food on table.
There was no objection as you left, just golden eyes following your retreating figure. Once you were out of sight he let out a sigh and slid down in his seat.
The scene played in his mind like a movie. A week ago he had been sitting at that very table, mere feet away, with his favourite person. Today he was very much alone. He wasn't the type to have feelings, and he definitely wasn't the type to express them. Vanitas spun back around on his barstool and took a shot. He was determined to keep his cold, nonchalant attitude, even though deep down he knew how badly he messed things up, he could never admit to it.
Vanitas doubled tapped on the bar, signalling the bartender for another shot. A sigh escaped his lips and he ran his hand through his hair before resting his head on his open palm. The glass clinked against the counter and Vanitas watched as the brown liquor flowed from the bottle in the bartenders hand.
He nodded at the bartender, as if to thank you him, and then downed the shot. Vanitas stood up, pulling his wallet out of his pocket and placing some money on the counter, then switching it out for a pack of cigarettes as he walked to the exit. Once outside he lit the cigarette that was hanging from his mouth. He inhaled then removed the cigarette with his middle and pointer finger before smoothly blowing the smoke out of the corner of his mouth.
As Vanitas walked by a lot full of Christmas trees he heard a familiar laugh, one that immediately caused his head to snap to the left. There —standing amongst Cloud, Tifa, and Zack — was you. You had a huge grin on your face and seemed to be focused on Zack, probably laughing at something dumb he said. Vanitas scoffed and stuck the cigarette back in his mouth as he turned his head forward again. Christmas was your favourite holiday. You were so annoying about everything involving it, but yet he was jealous. He was jealous that instead of spending Christmas with him, like you always did, you were spending it with them —the competition.
Unlike you, Vanitas wasn't naive to the fact that both of them had a thing for you. He rolled his eyes and shook his head in irritation. He wanted so badly to blame them, to blame anyone, for how he was feeling. He hated the thought of being responsible for making himself feel so shitty, but he, and he alone, was the sole reason.

"It's been three weeks now. Stop being a dumbass and just man up already." Axel dodged the ball that was thrown at his head. Vanitas had been laid back tossing a ball in the air while Axel played video games.
"Shut the fuck up."
"You know damn well I'm right. You can act stupid all you want but you and I both know you love her." The knowing smirk on the redheads face irked him.
"You don't know shit." He growled.
Ven chuckled from his spot in the corner. "Seems to know more than you."
"Was I talking to you?" Vanitas snarled.
"Isn't it sad that even Axel thinks you fucked up?" Ven was amused that finally Vanitas actions were coming back to bite him in the ass.
Vanitas threw the clock from the nightstand at him. "Do you want me to hit you?"
Axel paused his game and spun around to face Vanitas. "You wouldn't be so pissed if you didn't think we were right about this."
