Heart

She watched as the world she knew crumbled around her. How had it come to this? Why had this happened?

Her species had all but gone extinct due to the humans and their precious invention. She was the last of the Sea Turtles. Every species had slowly reached an end until the Greens were the only ones left; even then it still happened. None of them could find enough food. They would get tangled in the trash left by the people that didn't bother to clean up.

She had known a whale once, when she was young. She was only a few years old. The whale called himself a... What was it? Oh yes. He was an orca. The humans called them Killer Whales. Funny when they were the ones to bring the destruction of the whales.

He had said to her "I am old. I should eat you but I won't. You might live to see the planet in the beauty it once had."

Now they were all gone. The sharks. The turtles. The whales. It was only her and some fish.

She sighed and sank to the sea floor. She was as hungry as possible but all she could find was trash.

She knew her time was soon. She was only seventy years old but her sisters hadn't even made it to sixty. She was lucky.

She closed her eyes and waited for her fate.

He swam down to the sea floor. He had seen the last sea turtle here. He assumed she was looking for food. He knew she wouldn't find any here-or in the ocean for that matter.

He had his goggles over his eyes. He looked all around. He could hardly see through the plastic surrounding him. It was everywhere.

When he saw her he felt like he would cry. She was alive. Barely.

He went down to her and picked her up. She hardly weighed anything. He swam as fast as he could to the boat that had brought him out here. Once he got there he climbed aboard.

"I found her!" He shouted to no one

He was happy she was safe. He wouldn't let her stay hungry for one more moment.

His kind may have tried to kill the planet but he refused to let them finish the job. He would save as much as he could and then he would work on returning the planet to its former glory. Humankind might have decided to give up on Earth but he never would.
