He downed the last of his whiskey. He wondered if she knew. Yet he walked out of the bar not noticed by a single soul but said a few words to the bartender with a husky tone that could make anyone feel insane " here's a 20, I will never be coming back to this town, or see any of you again".
He soon left the bar and threw out any of his papers - they had a name on them that no one could see any more " Ian Felix" - if anyone saw that name his life could be over, no one would know that he went missing or that he even existed. He stared down the burning stack of papers with solemn almond eyes said "good riddance", walked to his pick-up truck, and drove away far from what the naked eye could see. Ian Felix, or so he was just a few minutes ago had one hope only - that the police weren't on his tail.
He reached for the map in the back of his car looking for the road that could lead him into Canada or has he knew it - the road to safety. If he used a phone he could be found, his life would be over but the paper couldn't be found, a credit card was no longer in the pseudo-name "Ian Felix" or any name - cash would be the only way not to get caught. There was no plan after this for him he just needed to leave the United States. No one knew why because no one truly knew this man. According to the world, he didn't exist.
"Goodbye to this life, I need to leave. Sorry to everyone who knew my fake name. I'm sorry that you never knew. And sorry to my daughter - if I had done this sooner, you could be seeing this day, and it wouldn't be special to you", he wrote on a flimsy piece of paper. He threw it into the road, never to be seen again. He left his pickup truck behind as well, flipped his messy midnight black hair out of his face and ran into the darkness of the cold night. He eventually saw the fence, or as he saw it - the gate to safety, hopped over the fence, never to be seen by his many enemies again. He made it - unlike many others who tried the same stunt, in the same way, at the same place - he was one of the few to live.
