"Blah, Blah, Blah, Geodesic." My physics professor was rambling about something I didn't quite understand, as per usual. So I chose to draw demons on my arm with a fine, black sharpie as you do as I swiveled in my chair. She kept rambling but the words became clearer and slowly spoken as she discussed her personal theories about the ways space and time are connected; which aren't even backed by science or math in any way. How shocking.
The slowness of her speech became worrying. A desolate voice in the background. A voice that seemed to push down on my chest. Suffocate me. Taking every last ounce of oxygen. My breathing became hitched as my thoughts circled my mind in vain. Unintelligible thoughts that were and still are impossible to trace as I sit in my black swiveling chair feeling glued to it. The glue was fear. Yet there was nothing to fear.
I could feel the ground twitching and shaking as everything began to froze. The walls, the pens, the hands typing, the eyes moving across the pages in textbooks, and the professor's mouth slowed to a stop. I looked around the room avoiding moving everything but my eyes and saw the room frozen in time. I lifted each of my fingers individually to make sure I could move. Each one moved. The fear kept me endlessly glued to my seat, not knowing if any moving could be the cause of certain death.
"Oh hello. I was expecting more people to show up to the party!" A mysterious woman yelled from the back of the room. She walked in with heavy steps, hitting the ground sharply with a rhythm to her movements. She made it to my seat in the middle of the room, and got to the opposite side of my desk. "What's your name sweetheart? I was sent here to retrieve you. Don't worry. It's only my job." "What the literal hell do you and your employer want from me?" "You're a special girl. You can do things that no one else is capable of." "I don't care, I don't want to join your comittee of fancy assholes." "You don't have a choice because you're always doubting yourself despite the fact that my employers and many others are intimidated by your potential. It's funny isn't it? The people with the most potential have the most fear." "Wait...how exactly do I have potential?" I sat up a little straighter curious as to what exactly she could have to say.
The mysterious woman pulled a cigar with complex symbols on one side only outside of her bag and snapped her fingers. "A lit cigar is always nice, isn't it?" "How did you light that...you never took out a lighter?" "I'm special just like you honey. I can use energy to my will and you can use time to your will. You made time freeze. Not me. I mean we could kill you because you may be a negative influence, but having you work for us is much easier. So do you die? Or do you take a one year contract to work for us, and then we'll leave you alone forever?" "I'll take the job."
