Kimberly, my best friend, had just dropped me off at the bus stop, at 8:00 pm on a saturday. "Are you sure you don't want me to take you the rest of the way?" She asked. I shook my head no. "It's too far... you need to get more rest than I do, it's your big day." I said. She started to protest but then the bus honked behind her car, so she had to move. Seconds after she left, the bus pulled up. I started to step aboard when the bus driver asked, "Where's you metro card, lady?". I had searched my pockets to no prevail. "I don't have it..." I said. The man sighed. "Do you atleast have change?" I checked again but only found a quarter and pennies. It wasn't enough. "Look, I can't just let you on. You're gonna have to just walk home from here..." and he closed the doors, ready to pull off. "Wait! I only need to go a few stops!" I yelled. I started to chase after the bus but came to my senses and knew it was a long shot. what am I going to do? I said to myself. "I'll take you home. that is, if you'd like." Someone from behind me said. I quickly turned around, startled. I saw a man (at least I thought it was male) up against the outside wall of a building. But that was at least several yards away. Yet he sounded as if he were right beside me. "No thanks. I'll, um, walk home." I said nervously. I had a bad feeling about him. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, and a chill run up my spine. I turned around to see the dark figure in front of me. You know how you see someone from afar and they look more like just a silhouette? Well he looked like that, only he was directly in front of me. I turned back the other way and saw the man again leaning on the wall, exactly where he was before. "Two?" I said. I started to run the way they both weren't . I made it across the street when I noticed something about my shadow. It seemed to be coming out of the pavement. But it couldn't be... I shouldn't even see my shadow because it was dark out. Unless...
My shadow grabbed my ankle at the same moment I realized it wasn't my shadow. It was those dark and mysterious men. I fell down, and they dragged me by my hair and feet. I struggled to get out of their grasp, Until I just gave up. It felt like forever before I finally looked at my surroundings and noticed where I was. I was covered in dirt, leaves and sticks. I pushed everything off me. I realized that I had to be in a forest or woods. I saw a light, and some men. "Hey, I see something." One guy said. They bent over something I couldn't see, and they all gasped, and covered their mouths, and groaned in disgust. "Hey! What is it? Hello?!?!?" I yelled out to them. "Someone call the police. Oh god..." Said someone. I ran over and tried to pull around that guys shoulder and say,"Don't you hear me?!" But my hand went strait through. I looked at it. I went through and finally saw what they were looking at. "What?" it was my own body. Turns out I was dead. "Those...they...killed me." Was all I managed to say.
I stayed put until the police came and took my body. I watched them examine it and talk about it. "Murder, right?" One officer asked. The other shook her head. "I wouldn't know. See those slash marks on her ankles and neck? It looks like an animal did it. But the other marks, well, they're human bite marks, as far as I can tell." She said. "Officer Perry! Mrs. Duvall is here." Yelled someone. I uncrossed my arms and looked up to see Mom. " Where's my baby? Where is she?!?" Mom yelled. "Mom!" I yelled. "That's not her! It can't be... she's still at Kimberly's! My little girl is not dead!" She screamed. "Alyssa... honey answer me... you're not gone, no..."She said once she saw my body on the ground. She was crying harder than I've ever seen her before. "No mom, I don't want you to be like this..." I said, touching her face. "She looked up from my corpse and touched her cheek. "is that you?" She said. "I felt you, I know I did..." I felt different just then... I started to get farther and farther from her. I tried to run only to find out I wasn't going anywhere. I stopped and caught my breath. "It wasn't your fault... it was ours." The dark figure said. Where I was? I didn't know. Every thing was white . Except for the two black things. "Why are you doing this to me?" I asked. "You did something to us. you killed us." Said one of them. then, in unison, they said, "So we decided to kill you." I tried to push them and run somewhere. I followed my insticts. "Just leave me alone!" I said. One figure popped up in front of me, and opened its mouth so wide, I thought I could see the entire universe. It knocked me down and I hit my head. I started to blank out but the thing pushed my head into the ground...I started to fall through...
I woke to a big thud. I was in a weird box. My coffin. I banged on the front, yelling. "I'm not dead! Let me out, I'm not dead!" I shouted so loud they shouldve heard it. They started lifting me back out. I was so glad when someone finally opened it up. Everyone started murmuring and whispering. I started to say thank you and explain what happened but the priest said something. "Huh?" I asked. He turned into a shadow, too. I screamed and wanted to run, but I couldnt. "Aren't you glad this is just a dream?".
I repeated it over again in my head...
Aren't you glad this is just a dream?
