Late... Again

I sat on my bed in my pajama shorts and vest; I didn't want to go to work, I may have the easiest job in the world, but I really can't be bothered on Mondays. I let my arm drop out from under the blanket to scan the floor for my beloved iPhone which always somehow ended up on the floor (i roll around a lot, leave me alone), once my fingertips touched the cold glass i picked it up, positioning myself against the head of the bed, I swiped my finger across the screen, unlocking it. I quickly typed in my password (2046) and the screen came to life, showing a picture of my best friend and me. I open the Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr app; no one interesting was on Facebook, so I logged off, I reblogged a few things and checked my followers on Tumblr; 6,853.

"Getting there," I mumbled to myself as I closed Tumblr and read through my Twitter mentions.

@AlexMurphy: YOU'RE LATE FOR WORK @JaiSmith !! HURRY UP, MARY ISN'T HERE YET!

Alex was my bestfriend and he was also my work mate, and Mary? She's our boss, and if she found out that I'm late AGAIN she'll have my head. I quickly replied to Alex before logging off and jumping out of my bed.

@JaiSmith: @AlexMurphy I'm up and on my way, hold your horses! X

I showered before I went to bed last night so I skipped that and went straight to my wardrobe, taking out a pair of denim shorts and a simple white t-shirt. I stripped out of my pajamas and pulled on my clothes before jogging into the bathroom to wash my face and clean my teeth. I put a thin layer of foundation on, some eyeliner and mascara before turning my attention to the mop on my head. I quickly brushed through it, not very well i might add, and turned on my curler before running out of the bathroom to pack my bag. I threw my iPod, iPhone, keys, water bottle, wallet and lip balm into the small back pack before making my way back to the bathroom.

I only curled a few bits of my blonde hair to make it look more presentable before turning off the curler; I slipped on my gladiators and bolted out of my room, picking up my bag on the way out. I locked my door from the inside and slammed it shut before running down the street, it only takes ten minutes to walk, and considering i ran most the way I'm there in a matter of minutes, pushing open the small door as the familiar bell rang, I slowed myself to a walk.

I entered the back room, throwing my bag with Alex's and taking a green apron off the hook, placing it over my head and tying it up around my waist. i made my way back behind the counter and picked up the cloth to wipe a few spills Alex had made earlier.

"Where have you been?" i jumped as Alex's breath touched the back of my neck. i turned around and took in his appearance; black skinny jeans and a Beatles t-shirt with an apron tied around his waist, his hand sitting on his hip making me giggle. i pushed him out of my way and started walking towards the sink.

"I was at home if that's all right with you" i said, rinsing out the cloth and placing it over the tap.

"I haven't seen you all weekend" he whined, wrapping his hands around my waist and sitting his head on my shoulder, squeezing me a little too tightly...

"ALEX! NOT DURING YOUR SHIFT!" i let out a small giggle as Mary bursted through the door and yelled at Alex, causing him to let go of my body and start fiddling with the coffee machine.

"Sorry Mary, i was just... uh-"

"-being a hormonal teenger, wonderful. Now get back to work and you can do that sort of stuff in your free time" she snapped before stalking off into the back room.

"Thanks Jai" he mumbled, filling up the coffee beans.

I smiled back at him, making my way over to the small portable radio and turning it on as the announcer's voice echoed through the empty coffee shop.

"And this morning we've got all your favourite old tunes, so get ready for some memories!" i turned the volume up a little more as Ne-Yo's 'Closer' filled my ears.

"Closer... Closer..." i whispered, sneaking up behind Alex who was still at the coffee machine, "Closer.. Closer..."

"What are you doing, Jai?" he laughed, turning to face me.

"Turn the lights off in this place," i started singing, "and she shines just like a staaar" i threw my arms in the air dramatically as Alex joined in with me.

"And i swear i know her faace!" he sang, grabbing my hands and twirling me around, "i just don't know who you areee!"

"Turn the music up in heeere" i sing, twirling into the sitting area, "i still hear her loud and clear, like she's right there in my eaar."

"Telling me that she wants to ownnn meeeeee, to controooool meeeeee," he sang, "Come closer, come closer"

We both stopped before breaking out into the chorus, "AND I JUST CAN'T PULL MYSELF AWAY, UNDER HER SPELL I CAN'T BREAK, I JUST CAN'T STOP, I JUST CAN'T STOP, I JUST CAN'T STOP, I JUST CAN'T STOP! AND I JUST CAN'T BRING MYSELF AWAY, BUT I DON'T WANT TO ESCA-" we stop mid-sentence when we hear boys laughing, i felt my cheeks burn a deep crimson colour as i scurried back behind the counter to turn the radio down.

"Alex, make yourself useful and wipe down the tables" i snapped, throwing him the cloth and busying myself with the cups and saucers. When i looked up at Alex i saw hime wiping the booth where the boys decided to sit, talking amongst themselves.

"Your girlfriend is a great singer" one of the boys told him.

"Jai? Yeah, she's amazing, but we're, uh... not dating" he replied awkwardly.

"Gosh Lou! See now he thinks you're some weirdo trying to set everyone up!" the curly haired boy said, slapping his friend over the head.

"No, no, it's fine. Uh, do you know what you'd like to order or d'you want me to give you a few minutes?" he asked the blonde boy.

"I tink we'll 'av a few minutes" he said, his irish accent clear as day, Alex nods before walking to the counter and throwing the cloth back at me, hitting me square in the face.

"They like youuuu" he sang, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Shut it" i hiss at him, putting the cloth away, he laughed at my reaction before walking into the back room.

"Hi, excuse me?" i looked up to see the curly haired boy standing in front of me, a dimpled smile plastered on his face, "i think we're ready to order"
