The moment I saw her for the first time, I swear the whole world stopped. My heart raced, my brain turned to oatmeal, beads of sweat on my face, I couldn’t think. No, this isn’t your typical: “boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl’s unavailable or just doesn’t feel any attraction and is kind enough to not let him go through the emotional torture of love, and lets him down bluntly” kind of story. That’s not what this is.

This is a story of how I, Declan Reed Walker, fell in love for the very first time. But as I said before, this isn’t your typical love story. This is more of a story of how I fell in love, and ended up dead.

Yes, I said dead. No, it wasn’t a typo. No, it isn’t a metaphor. I actually died and the one thing that could’ve prevented my death was if Acacia Coleman had never switched into my third period Honors English Lit. class.

They say that most death is inevitable. They say that if that hadn’t killed me, something extremely similar would have. But I strongly believe that if Acacia stayed in her regular English Lit. class and hadn’t taken the placement test to get into Honors English Lit., I would still be alive and well. Well…maybe not well, I’ve never been well, I’ve been clinically depressed for as long as I can remember. So I wouldn’t be well, but I’d still be alive.
