“Aunt Sarah, please call again!” I pleaded once we were in the house. “Daddy must pick up now!”
“I tried before I went to pick you up, Marie. No one did.” She told me as she strolled off into the kitchen. I shook my head and went up to my room. I sat down at a desk and looked out the window. Still blue sky. What is up with these humans?
“Aunt Sarah!” I called, and five seconds later she was in my room.
She sighed dramatically. “What?”
“Does the sky ever change?” I asked, pointing to it.
“You’re still on the sky subject?” She whined.
“Well, yeah! I mean, the sky has to go back to normal, right?” I paused, but she shook her head in denial. “I mean, blue isn’t right. It’s red.”
“Marie, Hell is different from Earth. Earth has many countries with many leaders, many races and ethnicities of people, and water covers most of Earth, anyway.”
“That’s stupid.” I mumbled as I stood up and looked at the white sidewalk and green grass. “At least the grass is right.” But my eyes widened as I saw a familiar figure walking down the sidewalk. “Excuse me for a second.” I said as I ran out the door and downstairs. I opened the front door slowly and poked my head through. Okay, I’m not crazy. It was Aaron.
“Hey!” I called after him as he turned his head towards me and I shut the door behind me. I turned around again and he was right there.
“Hey.” He greeted. “You live here?”
“Yeah, for now. I live with my Aunt.” I told him, and he just nodded slowly.
“Ah, I see. Wait, didn’t you say you had a Dad?”
“Yeah…?” I said like it was a stupid question.
“Why don’t you live with him?”
I thought about which answer I should use. “Um, well, Daddy’s new wife doesn’t really like me that much. So she sent me here.”
“She sent you? And your Dad was okay with it?” He sounded sympathetic, and I liked it.
“Yeah, well, Daddy doesn’t exactly know where I am at the moment.” I replied with a laugh, trying to get off the subject.
“That’s harsh.” He replied simply.
“I know.” I said, dipping my head slowly, but bringing it back up.
“Hey, you wanna go with me to a movie this weekend?” He asked, but I didn’t know how to answer. Movie? With him?
“Lemme go ask…” I said slowly and backed away into the house. “Aunt Sarah!”
She came into the room, looking very unimpressed. “Oh my God, Wipeout is on and I’m missing it. What do you want?” She asked, crossing her arms.
“Aaron just asked if he wanted to go to a movie with me.” I told her, but her head tilted.
“Aaron is who…?” She asked, and I sighed.
“Really? You haven’t caught on?” I asked, but didn’t wait for the answer. “The guy who asked for my number.”
“Ooh, look who scored!” She exclaimed, clapping. “Bravo, Marie.”
“Shut up.” I said, but skipped to the important question. “Can I go?”
She walked over to the window and gasped. “Oh my God.”
“What?” I asked, but didn’t want to know.
“That’s the principal’s kid.” She told me, and my eyes widened.
“Really?” I asked, and she nodded. “Crap.”
“You like him?” She asked, but I shrugged.
“No! Not really…” I replied honestly. Really, I didn’t like him. But he was the principal’s kid. If we started dating, I’d never hear the end of it. Plus, if we broke up, I knew the school would fail me.
“Want my advice?” Sarah asked, but didn’t wait for the answer. “Don’t date him. Besides, you’re going back to Hell once I get a hold of Satan.”
“I know.” I nodded and stood by the door, but stopped. “Does that mean I can’t go?”
“You can if you want to.” She told me, and a small smile slipped onto my face.
“Thanks.” I said quickly before exiting. I approached him, but I don’t think he was paying attention. “Aaron.”
He jerked around fast, his hair doing a little flip in the process. “Oh, hey.”
“My Aunt said I could go.” I told him, and his smile widened.
“Cool. I’ll see you Saturday. I got to go, see you tomorrow at school.” He said as he headed off. I waved until he was out of sight.
I headed back inside, surprised to see Sarah in the window, smiling evilly. Oh dear God.
“I have great experience with makeup. We will make you look spectacular.” She smiled devilishly, and i played with my hair some.
“All right, but not till Saturday.” I told her, and she pouted a little.
“Fine. Whatever. Now, I got to go to the store, so can I trust that you stay home by yourself? No wild parties.” She warned, and I laughed.
“Please, I don’t know enough people for a wild party.” I laughed back, but she gave me a cold stare. “What?”
“I’m serious.” She did the two finger thing with her eyes. “I’m watching you.”
“Haha, right.” I laughed, and then she shut the door behind her. Once I heard it shut, I scrambled all over the house to find the stupid phone, and finding Daddy’s number. I searched through drawers, filing cabinets, anything that could have Daddy’s number on it.
I found an address book with tons of names, most I didn’t even know. I flipped through it until I found the name ‘Satan’ and looked for the number. Found it!
I picked up the phone and dialed the number. It rang a couple times until I heard a harsh voice on the other end.
“Hello?” Ninety-six answered.
“What the Hell is wrong with you!? Put Daddy on the phone now!” I screamed into the phone, but she didn’t answer.
“Oh, it’s you.” She sighed dramatically.
“Hell yeah it’s me! Give Daddy the phone now!” I ordered, but she just laughed.
“Why would I do that? He’s too busy looking for you.” She hissed at me.
“Daddy will know, Ninety-six.” I hissed back. “Give him the phone now.”
“Never.” She replied simply.
“Fine, give it to Maximum.” I told her, but she laughed again.
“Your sisters aren’t even here. They’re with whoever your friends are and they’re searching for you, too.”
“I will call back, like, every ten minutes until someone in my family picks up.” I threatened her, although it wasn’t really a threat.
“I’ll disconnect the phone if you do that.” She warned, and my jaw dropped in disgust.
“I hate you.” I hissed at her.
“Feeling’s mutual, bitch.” And the phone clicked. She hung up on me.
“Damn it.” I sighed as I put the phone back on the charger. “Daddy will find me, and you will die.” I muttered to myself, clenching my fists together. “I promise you that.”
That promise would be very hard to keep.
