Bennett watched as Elara quickly ran from the room. He imagined her leaving nothing behind except a small dust cloud like in children's cartoons.

He knew she would be upset and that's why he hadn't wanted to tell her.

He knew all too well the pain of loved ones at the hands of those vile creatures. If he could have he would have found a way to shield her from it; shield her from the other monsters that go bump in the night.

But Bennett doesn't want to lie to Elara.

It's a definitely a lot to take in and she shouldn't be alone. Now that She was in his life, Bennett wanted Elara to lean on him for anything and everything.

He wanted to follow. His muscles twitched getting prepared to sprint after her, but his Alpha's hand stopped him.

Already the two Alphas were talking training strategies and different courses of action that could be taken.

For the first time, Bennett hated his position in the pack. He hated that his Alpha was relying on him for input and that it was stopping him from going after Elara.

His eyes connected with Grace's, who had been sitting quietly rubbing her mates back as he hung his head in his hands.

Bennett hadn't known Grace that long, but he prayed to the Moon Goddess that she would understand his silent plea.

Go after her, please! Make sure she's alright and I'll be there soon. His eyes begged of Grace.

"I think that could work. the warriors need the extra attention anyway since they'll be at the front lines, so to speak. Anything to add Ben?" Alpha Gabriel said before both Alphas turned to stare at him.

Bennett wasn't even pretending to listen, but he knew the general plan. It was his idea after all. He had carefully constructed every piece thinking that it would be flawless.

Train the warriors and high ranking fighters first. Make sure they are fully and well prepared before moving on to train everyone else.

Like a wave, they'll hit the enemy with force that will knock them down and hopefully the rest won't be needed.

After what felt like hours of barely breathing, Grace gave a small nod to Bennett and pulled Everett from the room.

Thank you. He sighed a small amount of relief, before nodding to the still waiting Alphas.

"Only that we should start immediately." Bennett wasn't to keen on the idea but he couldn't argue with himself over the logistics of it.

There was no saying when the next attack would be. For all Bennett knew, they could already be on their way and they needed the plan to go off flawlessly.

And after meeting Elara, doubts have plagued his mind. What if the plan fails? What if the vampires get through the line and their wave of defense wasn't enough?

What if Bennett can't save Elara just as he couldn't save his dad and brother?

The mere thought sends a pang to his heart. He would rather die a thousand painful deaths and he would for Elara.

"I'll assemble the warriors on the training fields," Alpha Gabriel said quickly nodding to the two men before leaving the room.

"Ben?" A moment of silence had passed before Alpha Rafael had called out to him. His mind lost in a sea of what ifs as if it could prepare him for any outcome.

The Alpha places a hand on Bennett's shoulder, pulling him from the darkening thoughts twisting in his mind.

"I know that things have changed for you, but I still need your focus, especially if we want to protect your mate from this threat," Bennett lifted his eyes from the spot he had been mindlessly staring at to meet the grey eyes of his Alpha, "We know how to protect them this time."

The Alpha didn't need to say more, Bennett understood the meaning. He didn't need to worry about Elara ending up the way his brother and father had.

"Let's get started." He said, bowing his head in respect to his Alpha before moving to the training fields.

Elara could practically feel those obsidian eyes from her dream, following her as she ran from the pack house.

It was unnerving and the little hairs on her neck stood on edge.

All because of Vampires.

Her parents had been taken from her all because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Elara?" She heard Grace call after softly but she didn't turn around.

She did, however, become aware of the fact that she had stopped running and was just facing the trees.

How is it that everything looks exactly the same, even when Elara feels like her whole world had shifted and changed? Shouldn't the world look darker now instead of vibrant and alive?

Vampires are real. They killed her parents and her mate is helping lead the attack to take them down.  Elara had wondered about the truth for so long, so why does it hurt more than not knowing?

And how can she already care so much for a man she hasn't even known longer than forty-eight hours?

"Hey," Grace stepped into Elara's line of sight slowly and cautiously, "You okay?"

Elara's eyes snapped to hers. Despite every emotion that was raging inside of her, she wanted to laugh at the ridiculous question that Grace asked because Elara seemed as far away from Okay as possible.

But a small part of her wonders why she is the only one freaking out about all this? Even more, why hadn't Bennett come after her?

"Honey, Please don't cry," Grace pulled Elara into her arms and Elara clung to her as sobs began to rock through her body.

Grace was patient. Letting Elara get everything out of her system and not trying to think of something to make it better.

There was no making it better. There was no magic cure to take the pain and worry away. So instead, Grace held Elara, calmly stroking her hand up and down her back in a soothing manner reminding her that she wasn't alone.

Hello Beautiful readers! I'm sorry for my absence! I've just had a lot of family drama going on and it left me little to no time to write. Sadly this might be the last chapter of Starshine for the year 2018!

I'm actually gearing up for a family vacation in a few days and though I'll be typing ideas and such, nothing might actually come of it until 2019!

So in case this is it for the year, I want to wish every one a Merry Christmas (I celebrate Christmas, but if you don't, please take my wish to mean good tidings to you on the holiday you celebrate) and have a happy and safe New Year! <3
