After spending 5 years in solitary confinement, Iris decided that it was time to escape this prison that she had been trapped in for so long and be free in the great outside world (even though she had tried to escape many times before). But before that could happen someone had stopped her, from the voice it sounded like a girl and this girl went my the name Aranea Smythe, Iris took in all of her features, her skin looked to be a pale white, which complemented her raven coloured hair which had been plaited than tied up into a bun, her eyes were an electric blue, and she wore a white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, a midnight blue skirt, and her shoes were black buckles paired with white knee high socks, and she was kept in a heavily secured chamber with padded cell walls and a single bed, much like her own.

Though this was not the first time Iris had seen her here, she had seen Aranea many times, though she didn't understand why this girl had been sent here, she seemed like your average little girl, or so she thought. As time went on Iris had soon found out what was wrong with Aranea. Due to an experiment going wrong, Aranea had been given the ability to communicate with...spiders. Not only that but she had also been mutated into what you could call a human-spider hybrid, Her canine teeth had grown into fangs, she can now willingly grow two pairs of arms out of her torso and waist, create a silky light blue web out of her mouth, and can climb along any wall or ceiling with ease.

Even though no one knew if Aranea was a threat or not, the facility decided to keep her (much to her parents protest), she had been locked up in a secured chamber, with no way to get in and no way to get out. Her room consisted of a padded roof, floor and walls, but the front wall had been replaced with a thick piece of glass that was made specifically so Aranea could not shatter it. Her room was also decorated with a single bed, a bedside table with a lamp, draws filled with clothes, and a small bathroom off to the side of the room so no one could see her, and the bathroom included, a shower, a sink, and a Laundry Shute, where she was able to put dirty clothes and towels.

But Aranea didn't like this, she didn't like any of it, so, she decided that she would escape tonight through the ventilation shaft, which the facility forgot to remove in the making of her cell. As night came around Aranea made sure no one saw her, then she made her way carefully and quietly through the vent. But as she kept going she heard a faint sound of someone crying, so she decided to investigate. When following the sound she came upon another patients cell, from her position in the vent she couldn't see much so she had crawled closer for farther inspection but that resulted in the vents gate swinging open, causing her to fall into the patients cell.

*Aranea's P.O.V*
"Ugh, my head...." I got up off the floor into a sitting position rubbing my head, trying to ease the pain, my vision was blurred but I could see the outline of a figure in front of me, "Uh miss? Are you alright?" A female voice spoke, I looked up to see a girl sitting in front of me with a worried look planted on her face, she looked to be not much older then me, "Uh...yeah...I'm alright, I guess".

She put out her hand for me to shake "I'm Kennedy, Kennedy Hemsworth, but everyone calls me Iris, due to...well..my eyes, as you can probably see, and you're Aranea Smythe, right?"  Iris' head tilted to the side expecting an answer, I shook her hand with a smile, "Yup! That's me, nice to meet you Iris".

"It's nice to meet you too Aranea, but what are you doing out of your chamber? You'll be caught, and you'll be severely punished for trying to escape" Iris' face showed fear and worry, "Punished? They punish you for trying to escape?! What kind of place is this!". I started to pace back and forth, I could feel Iris' eyes on as me as I walked, "Maybe you could stay? Then you won't have to get hurt, *whispers* and I won't have to lose a new friend", I stopped in my tracks and looked towards the shaking girl in front me, "You...you see me as...a friend?".

"Of course! I may have only just met you, but I can see that you're a great person inside, plus you're the only person in this place that has actually been nice to me". And from then on Iris and I became best friends.

(All art in this book is done by me, and hopefully I'm doing alright for my first book. Probably not.)
