Charlies P.O.V

Me and Alex had always been bestfriends, for as long as I can remember. I don't have any childhood memories that don't include him. Any parties we hadn't shared, any group photos he wasn't in, any sleepovers that weren't together. We met in nursery when he was adopted by my next door neighbors and we ended up in the same class.

We bonded immediately over the fact that we had the same strange color of blue eyes, with the same green speck only in the right eye. We also bonded over the fact that we were both adopted and happened to have the same birthday which we thought was the coolest thing ever at the time. That bring me back to our party I'm currently at, scanning the crowd of people looking for anyone I actually recognized. It was our 16th and thanks to the fact that Alex had recently joined our school football team and become the new heartthrob of our school, we'd had to rent a hall to fit in all the never ending guest list of Alex's new, as he calls them, 'friends'. That's the thing with me and Alex, apart from our alarmingly similar looks, we were both completely different people. Alex was the school sports superstar, the guy all the girls wanted, the one who if he remembered your name it was an achievement. And I was just me, boring old Charlie, the one with hardly any friends, who couldn't catch a ball to save her life, who the only guys that liked me were the weird nerdy ones who did crosswords for fun...for FUN?!

Anyways back to the task at hand, trying to find my other bestfriend Anna or maybe even Alex if he wasn't preoccupied with some random girl. "Charrrrrrllllieeeeeeeeeee" Anna said coming to a stop in front of me, stumbling slightly, oh god. "Anna hey you ok?" I screamed over the way too loud music that seemed to be playing from every corner of the room, I turned around momentarily, sending a glare to some random guy who thought it would be a good idea to grab my ass whilst stumbling around. Ugh I must be the only sober one here. But when I turned around Anna was gone again. This night just kept getting worse and worse. I started making my way over to the backdoor to try and get a bit of fresh air, the smell of alcohol and sweat was starting to become unbearable. Pushing through the tones of people blocking my way to the door I finally reached it. There was just a bunch of people making out everywhere, some people smoking, smoking what didn't seem to be just cigarettes. Looks like the air wasn't much fresher here so I decided to just go round to the front of the building where hopefully it would be quieter. What I didn't expect to see when I went round the corner of the building was Alex groping and sucking the face of his annoying ex Grace. They were blocking most of the tight space so I was just going to turn around and try to find ANOTHER exit when they momentarily broke apart and Alex looked over for a split second, noticing me. Oh no. I tried quickly slipping away but I wasn't fast enough. "Char" he shouted, slightly pushing Grace off him, "You ok?" "Er yeah, just about to leave actually" I said starting to walk away. "Leave?" he questioned fully pushing Grace away now and walking over to me instead. "Baaaaaaaabe" she said trying to grab his arm and pull him back, "Fuck off Grace", he said properly coming over to me, strange. "Hey Char, why you leaving so soon? Please stay", his eyes pleaded. His eyes, something wasn't quite right with them. He wasn't drunk, I'd be able to tell. Then it hit me, the overpowering smell of weed. "Alex", I said pushing him away slightly. "You're high again, I can't believe you". I started walking away. I hated it when he got high and after the last...incident he'd promised he wouldn't do it again. "Char, hey hey, wait" he said softer this time, making me stop. "You know how difficult it is for me at this time of the year, I needed another, distraction", he said his voice almost a whisper. I knew what he was talking about, I knew how it felt, but there were better ways to distract yourself. "I know what it's like, don't you think its hard for me as well?" I said a single tear rolling down my cheek. He reached out trying to wipe it off but I backed away leaving the party altogether. "Charlie" I could hear him shout but I didn't turn back. I wasn't forgiving him that quickly this time.
