I read the first book and my advice is to keep an open mind, because you are in for a treat. It is not for the light hearted, full of angst, twists and turns and a powerful beginning which grabs the attention from the very first paragraph. Rich in culture and tradition and plenty of NSFW for those who like a little heat... or rather, a lot of heat.... hehehe. Well thought out plot line and flows very nicely. It also continues the marriage between Ye Hua and Bai Qian as well as the uneasy relationship between the brothers. All round, an excellent novel for those who wish to read a continuation of Mo Yuans fate based on the little that Tang Qi left us with.
