Signore e signori!
That's how Giovanni Boccaccio may have addressed the ladies and gents in his home town of Certaldo, Italy almost seven hundred years ago when presenting his collection of now classic tales for the first time.
Those one hundred stories were written by the author as though they had been told by a group of seven men and three women over ten nights in a setting that may have looked something like this:
In other words, it was a total par-taaaay!
This collection aims to replicate Boccaccio's method in a modern setting and give Wattpad readers a similar experience.
The premise is simple. Ten people are forced to spend ten days together, cut off from the rest of civilization. Unlike in Boccaccio's original that had the same ten people tell a different tale each night, we will have different writers for each of the (over) one hundred stories. It'll be the participating authors' jobs to set the scene – where is their team stranded and what are they hiding from – before telling a short story that somehow incorporates the day's theme. The stories are between 1,500 and 3,000 words.
Participation was by invitation only with each day having a Group Leader, otherwise known as the King or Queen for the day. They had the responsibility to not only pick the other nine authors in their team, but also the theme that they all wrote around.
This collection first appeared on Wattpad in 2016, but had to be removed when this profile joined the Futures Program. Now that is closed, this can be reposted. With much of the world under lockdown during the early months of 2020 due to unfortunate circumstances, the timing is ironic, if not fortuitous. Hope you enjoy the stories.
