jaerin yawned and stretched her arms from her seat, patiently waiting for her best friend to come over. she peered down onto her phone, hoping to find a text from him announcing that he was going to be late but nothing was there. she laid down onto the sofa and flickered through the channels that her tv provided but nothing interesting was on. suddenly, the doorbell rang and jaerin jolted up from the sofa, running towards the door. taeyong was out with some friends and their mom was finishing her work so they had the whole house to themselves. she opened the door gleefully to see a tall giant holding bags of chips and drinks in his arms. he smiled back and let himself in, placing the items onto the kitchen table.
"sorry for taking so long, i had to run some errands for my mom." johnny acknowledged, but she nudged him on the side. "i want my netflix and premium now." he grimaced at the pain but then chuckled as he pulled out a slip of paper from his trench coat. it was the password to the netflix and spotify account. jaerin squealed in excitement and hugged johnny with all her might. johnny smiled softly at the sight of jaerin being jittery and happy— he was so glad to have her. he placed his coat onto the hanger which was next to the front door and plopped down onto the sofa. jaerin noticed this and stood in front of the boy; it seemed like she was waiting for something. johnny looked up and laughed softly. "what do you want?"
jaerin opened her arms and pointed to him. "i want my last gift." she says, putting her hands onto her hips. johnny motioned her to come forwards and she did, falling perfectly into her best friend's arms. he hugged her tightly and watched quietly over her shoulder as she was setting up the netflix account. she decided to set up spotify later since they were supposed to watch a movie with each other. it took jaerin a while to set up the app and actually connect it to her tv, so johnny placed his head on the crook of her neck and closed his eyes. the girl found comfort from her friend's actions and eventually, she had finished setting up the app.
"wow finally, if you finished any later i would've been out cold." johnny said, raising up his head. jaerin turned around and gave his head a flick. he groaned in pain, clutching his forehead. "hey!! i was joking. that hurt you know." jaerin shrugged at his response and leaned onto johnny's chest. "what are we watching?" he asked curiously, looking at jaerin straight in the eye. she turned back to the tv and chose the conjuring. "i'm in the mood for horror movies." she smirked and hit the play button.
johnny's chuckles slightly shook as he forced a smile. "i'll be ok, you're here." jaerin beamed at her friend's approval and got off of him, taking a seat to his right. johnny leaned onto her shoulder, but she disapproved his action by pushing it away. "hey! i already gave you a hug, why can't i lean onto your shoulder?" he whined.
"because your head is too big for my shoulder." she said while sticking out her tongue. "you can do it when i actually grow."
"which will never happen."
"fuck you." jaerin mumbled, shifting her attention to the tv screen. unlike jaerin, johnny's eyes were still fixated on the girl as he was busy studying her natural features. his eyes scattered around her face which started from her eyes to... her lips. flustered at his behavior, he immediately turned to the tv as if he was watching all along.
jaerin looked at johnny curiously and noticed the warm tint that painted his cheeks. "you scared seo? you look awfully red." johnny couldn't look up. he just couldn't. they were just friends after all.
then why was he thinking about a scenario that wasn't normal for best friends? why can't he look into her eyes like a few moments ago?
"i'm just a bit hot... i am wearing a turtleneck after all. plus, your ac is bad as fuck." jaerin got up from her seat to go adjust the air conditioner. "there, i lowered the temperature." "thanks." johnny mumbled. like that's gonna help at all.
after a few jump scares and three bags of chips, it was time for johnny to take his departure. he got up to stretch his long limbs which was something jaerin always admired. "goddamn i still can't believe how long you are..."
"oh do you want to see him in action?" he wiggled his eyebrows playfully and watched jaerin's face crinkle in disgust. "johnny......... no."
"just playing, you already know my character." he shrugged and smiled softly. jaerin nodded in agreement and grabbed his trench coat off of the hanger. "make sure to get home safely, hmm?" the tall boy saluted his best friend with a "yes ma'am!" and walked out the door.
"wait, seo!" jaerin called out in the winter wind. johnny turned around and linked eyes with hers. "good night."
"good night love."
