Your POV
When ONI said that this ship was abandoned, they weren't kidding. The covies left it neatly empty. As Jane piloted the Pelican to land within a hanger, I spoke to the others within the passenger section.
Me: "Alright. Here's the briefing. ONI has informed the brass that this ship has been abandoned. Our job is to go onboard and search the bridge. If we find any hostiles, we are to deal them sweet justice in the shape of bullets. Standard formation."
Jane: "Sir, we're approaching the hanger."
Me: "Affirmative. Load weapons and seal armor. We don't know if there is breathable air on board." The sounds of mags being loaded filled the compartment.
Me: "Jane, give us a countdown."
Jane: "Affirmative sir. Five." I looked to Hank, who was pulling his turret up.
Jane: "Four." Isaac loads up his biofoam. Lilac places her helmet onto her head and seals it with a hiss.
Jane: "Three." Isaac places his helmet onto his head as I loaded my rifle.
Jane: "Two." I seal my helmet as a red light began to flash.
Jane: "One." We rises our weapons as the pelican touched down.
Jane: "Go Go Go!" The ramp lowered and the four of us charged down the ramp. Quickly looking over the hanger, I spot a phantom hovering. It seemed the covies came back to salvage whatever they can. The hanger as devoid of the covies' soldiers. Something was suspiciously happening.
Me: "Hank, Isaac, stack up on the door. Jane power down the pelican. Lilac come with me to plant explosives." They yell out their confirmations and Lilac and I walk towards the phantom.
Lilac: "Any idea why a phantom would be here if it was supposedly abandoned?"
Me: "None. But if they want to leave a CAS class without a supporting compliment of troops, then let them. Easier for us." Hank yelled out to us.
Hank: "Sir, we have a problem!" I yelled back.
Me: "What is it?"
Hank: "Uh. It's a plasma problem."
Me: "Shit. Engage, we're on our way." I nod to Lilac and we turn towards the door. My visor darkens to prevent eye damage at the sight of multiple plasma bolts firing at Hank and Isaac.
Me: "Jane form up at the door."
Jane "Understood, I'm on my way!" By the time the three of us reached the door, Hank was pushing the covies back into the hall with a wall of bullets. Plasma rained down onto our position as we pushed down the hall.
Hank: "I thought ONI said this ship was abandoned?!" He turned a corner with his turret and rained down a hail of bullets.
Isaac: "Turns out they were mistaken." He raised his weapon and trailed behind them. I motion my head to Lilac and Jane.
Me: "Follow the wall of bullets. It's our fastest way to get to the bridge." They nod and follow behind him, weapons raised. I peeked down the hall behind us. My mouth stretched down into a frown. This was way too easy, even for an ambush. And the phantom certainly could hold more than this amount of soldiers. Something happened here. Something I want to know about. I raise my battle rifle and follow behind me team. After the initial ambush, there was little to no attempt to stop us. Meaning that was the only group or there were more on the bridge. But by the look of things, we're about to find out.
Me: "Stack up. Hank middle, Isaac left side. Lilac, Jane right side." They nod and assume positions. I step next to Isaac as Hank spun the barrels of his turret. As I raised my rifle, I nod to Jane and she opened the door. Hank charged in first while we charged in from the sides. And yet, the bridge was empty.
Me: "Fan out. Keep your guard up. And search for anything as to why they abandoned this ship." They nod and walked around the ship. I walk over to the navigation console. All the previous slip space jump coordinates had been deleted. Odd. It seemed the Covenant knew we were coming. I pressed my finger to the side of my helmet.
Me: "Anything?"
Hank: "Negative."
Jane: "Nothing."
Isaac: "Nothing over here."
Lilac: "Clear."
Me: "Understood. Come to the navigation console." They walked over to me.
Me: "It seems as if the Covenant abandoned this ship for a reason. No clues left as to why. And all previous slip space jump coordinates have been deleted." Suddenly Hank pushes me out of the way. Hank grunts in pain as I turn to see an energy sword through his gut. The Elite holding the energy sword lifted him up before throwing him. I unsheathed my knife and slammed it into the Elite's head. The Elite goes limp as I pulled my knife out. Isaac immediately ran over to Hank with his bio foam canister. As he began to treat him, the navigation console activated. Jane and Lilac point their weapons at it only to see it unmanned. Suddenly the ship lurches forward as if it was accelerating.
Me: "Turn it off!" Jane ran around and began to press buttons.
Jane: "It isn't responding!"
Me: "Shoot the damn thing!" Jane grabbed her magnum and emptied a clip into it. Still the ship accelerated. I ran over to it and examined the coordinates. It was randomized.
Me: "Prepare for a slip space jump." Jane rand over to help secure Hank with Isaac. Lilac held onto a nearby console as did I. I looked into the void of space to see a slip space portal open. As I closed my eyes, the ship entered the portal. Then, within an instant, the ship stopped full force. Explosions rang out across the ship. I opened my eyes to see the ship in a debris field of some kind. But what worried me most was that I felt younger. I no longer felt like I was in my mid thirties. I removed my helmet and looked at my reflection. In the reflection was my seventeen year old face staring back. When I looked up, I saw a planet. And we were heading right for it. Whether we liked it or not.
Me: "Brace for impact, we can't make it to the hanger on time!" I place my helmet back onto my head. My team yells out their respective responses as Isaac tries to stabilize Hank. The ship shakes as it began to traverse through what looked like the remnants of a moon. Consoles around us sounded alarms signaling that most of the ship has taken breaches. Hopefully the pelican or the phantom survives the crash.
