Thomas POV:

Walking down the mid winter streets was a nightmare. My t-shirt hanging loosely on my frail body. I was hugging myself to try to keep the frigid wind out of my bones. Shivering and tired I limped down the alley I called home for the last 3 years. Looking up I noticed the grey clouds rolling in. I hurried over to my makeshift shelter and crawled in.

I hadn't gotten the free food today like I wanted. Instead I got beat by the owner of the shop. Lying there in my box waiting for the snow to stop, I had started to get tired. I knew If I slept I'd be open to anyone to do whatever they wanted to me. Dozing off I was slipping into a deep dream.

~FLASHBACK~

I heard my dad yelling at his new "friend". Scared I was trying to stay as quiet as I possibly could, when I heard a loud crash near the closet door I was hiding behind. I held my breath as my father's footsteps stop in front of the door. I could see his shadow under the door, I tried covering myself with more coats, when he started walking away. I pulled to hard on one of the jackets, causing a box to fall, creating a loud BANG. I started freaking out.

The door flew open as I looked up at my angry father. He grabbed my hair yanking me out of my hiding spot. I got beat to the edge of my life that night. I had blacked out from the pain and loss of blood.

~FLASHBACK OVER~

I awoke with a jolt as there was a lot of extra noise in my alley. I laid there hoping that whoever it was didn't see my box. Trying to keep my breathing even and quiet, there was a loud yell "WHERE DID YOU PUT IT!" I was curious to what they were arguing about, and you know that saying "Curiosity killed the cat". I finally understood what that meant. I slowly shifted to peak around the corner of the trash bin to see what was happening.

There were three giant men who looked like they were in a gang. They all wore black skin tight shirts with leather jackets over them, as well as jeans. My eyes widened in fear as I saw the guns strapped to their waists. They were surrounding another big guy, that looked like my size compared to normal people. He looked scared, but I wasn't going to step in. I didn't need another beating today, or the chance of getting shot. Watching quietly I didn't realize my body was still fighting the cold, what happened next I'd like to say changed my life. For better or for worse, I can't tell. This thing that may have ruined my life was a measly sneeze.

They all stopped everything they were doing. It went dead quiet. I hid back in my box, still curled up. I closed my eyes fearing the worst. There was a bark of orders "Check it out". Shivering from the cold I tried not to seem as scared as I was on the inside. I heard footsteps coming my direction. They kept coming closer with thunderous footsteps.

~FLASHBACK~

I came back from the kitchen with my fathers beer. Walking into the living room, I noticed him on the couch sucking my new "mom's" face. The news was on talking about some new mafia group rising through the ranks. I sat his beer on the table. He noticed me and yelled "GET THE FUCK OUT". Scared I ran up to my "room", which was a small closet sized room with a sleeping bag for a bed. His heavy footsteps were coming up the stairs. I lied on my bed waiting for my daily beating. 'THUMP, THUMP, THUMP' He ripped my door open, 'this beating was gonna be different, I thought. He had a gun this time, I didn't know what to do except beg him not to.

~FLASHBACK OVER~

The man walking my direction had on black boots. How do I know? They were right in front of my face. I was barely peeking through my heavy lids at those boots.
