It was sunset now, and Tony and I were heading to bed early, so that we would be able to help Rudolph out with saving his family.
Our parents were tucking us in at the moment, and Tony pretended to yawn. I was acting like I was already sleeping, and I felt my mother kiss me on the forehead before she and dad closed the door.
Tony and I waited for a moment, before my brother jumped out of bed, and ran over to the makeshift coffin. I followed in his steps, but not as quickly. "Rudolph, the sun is down. It's dark outside." When there was no reply, Tony tried knocking. When that didn't work, he opened the door, only to find the wardrobe completely empty. With a sad sigh, my brother closed the doors and sat atop them, sniffling quietly. I frowned at his tears, and moved to go comfort him, when I felt an arm wrap around my waist, and a hand cover my mouth.
I let out a muffled sound, catching my brother's attention. When I saw his eyes light up with joy, I knew who was behind me. "I thought you left without us!" Tony exclaimed, rushing over to us. Rudolph chuckled as he let his hand fall from my mouth, but he never released his grip on my waist. "I almost did." The vampire admitted.
"If you still want to come with me, now's the time!" Rudolph said seriously, looking my brother and I in the eyes. "My clan needs me--needs us!" Tony and I exchanged a look, before we both gave a smirk and a nod to the vampire.
"I can't waste anymore time!" Rudolph stated, before faltering slightly. "Er...do mortal kids fly?" He asked, looking at us doubtfully. "I can't even drive." Tony scoffed, crossing his arms. "I don't know how you mortals can stand walking everywhere." I looked away at Rudolph's words. "Ready to fly?" Rudolph grinned, looking between my brother and I.
I felt fear spike through me, and I took a step back. "I-I'm not so good at---er, I mean, I don't think I'd be good at flying." I stuttered out, stepping away from Rudolph as my brother grabbed his offered hand. "Come on. Take my hand." Rudolph said soothingly, holding out his hand towards me. I bit my lip slightly as I looked at it, before sighing softly. Looking into his shining ruby eyes, I took ahold of his free hand, watching as a smile grew on his face.
The moment I took his hand, I felt a sense of weightlessness come over me, and I looked down at the floor as we slowly began to rise off the ground. "Wow! H-How am I doing this!?" Tony asked, amazed. "I'm holding your hand." Rudolph replied, slyly. I felt his grip on my hand tighten, and I looked up into his eyes. The was a soft smile on his face, and the look in his eyes made me flush.
Rudolph gently guided us out of the window. "Now, we fly." He said, before he and I were tugged back. With a glance at each other, we both looked back to see Tony holding onto a curtain. "I-I don't know if I can." Tony whimpered, looking down to see the ground way below us. "I can leave you here. You are just a mortal after all." Rudolph chuckled, letting go of my brother. Thank goodness my brother was holding onto the curtain, because as Rudolph let him go, the curtain was able to make sure he made it back inside safely. "Maybe it's best if you do stay, Tony. Mom and dad would kill me if you got hurt." I tried to reason with my brother. I knew he was worried for me, but I also knew that he knew that I am more than able to take care of myself. "Alright..." he said sulkily, before going back into the room with a frown on his face.
I felt bad. I really did. But I needed to look out for his safety, first and foremost.
"Ready to go?" Rudolph asked, looking at me. "Yea...just...don't drop me, alright?" Rudolph chuckled at my words. "Wouldn't dream of it." I felt my cheeks heat up at his words. "Don't worry, just think of a wonderful thought." I sent him a glare. "Do not start singing on me." I growled out as he began to gently pull me through the air. He laughed at that, the sound of which made my heart flutter.
As Rudolph flew me around the castle, we dipped down towards the river below it, and I felt my fears slowly begin to disappear. "Feeling better?" Rudolph asked, a smile on his face. I returned it. "Yes, I do. Thank you." Rudolph's smile turned into a smirk, as he sped up slightly, pulling me under a bridge and back towards the entryway of the castle grounds.
I didn't notice when Rudolph stopped flying, nor did I see him look down towards the ground in fear--but I definitely noticed when his hand left mine and he flew downwards, leaving me falling to my death.
My heart began to race, and I began to panic. Not again. Not again!Notagain!Notagain! I thought frantically, reaching out for something to grab onto. I whizzed past Rudolph, who stopped what he was doing, only to see me getting closer to the ground. His red eyes widened, and he sped towards me, grabbing my hand in the nick of time, as he raised me higher from the ground.
He gently put me down onto one of the roofs of the castle. "You dropped me!" I cried out, my heart still racing. Rudolph flinched back. "I-I'm sorry!" He said taking a step closer to me. Just as I opened my mouth to speak, the slamming of a car door made me stop and look down.
There was a large, red truck, with a giant spotlight melded to the top of the truck. "Is that..." Rudolph nodded. "Rookery, the vampire hunter. Look, maybe it's best if you stay with your brother." I glared at him. "No, I don't care what happens, I'm going to help you."
"I need to find my parents!" Rudolph said, flying a bit away from me. "And I can give you an idea of where to look!" I tried, taking a step forwards. "How?" He asked, raising a brow at me. Don't you guys usually hang around cemeteries and crypts? Places like that?" I watched as he looked away from me for a moment, before holding up his hand.
I smirked in victory.
