02. Mr. Leather Jacket

*riiiiing*

Lunch.

"Grabe, half day pa lang ng first day of school napagod na 'ko." Julia muttered as she and Kathryn went out of the room to their lockers.

"Ganun talaga, third year na eh." Kathryn walked over to locker #26, which was beside Julia's, #25. Kathryn opened the lock and placed her things inside, followed by Julia. The two went to the cafeteria afterwards.

The two got trays and joined the line. "Grabe, daming tao." Kathryn commented.

"Dami kasing first years," Julia replied. "Ang iingay pa."

Kathryn chuckled and shook her head as they ordered food. Julia went to a table nearby and when Kathryn turned around...

"Aaah!" She she shrieked and looked down. Her shirt was now drenched in juice she ordered.

"Naku, miss, sorry! Di ko sinasadya!" Kathryn looked up and saw the guy from the bus. Daniel.

Kathryn stared at him for a moment.

"Miss? Miss!" Kathryn went back to reality when Daniel spoke again.

"Ah, um..." Kathryn couldn't say a word.

"May pampalit ka bang damit? Naku! Sorry talaga!" Daniel asked her.

Kathryn tightened her grip on her tray. Everyone was staring. "Huh? Uhm, wala eh.. Pero..o-okay lang y-yun, konti lang naman e-eh.."

Daniel shook his head. "Ito, gamitin mo nga nga lang tong jacket ko."

Kathryn watched Daniel as he took of his jacket and gave it to her. "Th-thank you ha."

"Sige, alis na kami, sorry talaga!" Daniel left with a wave, followed by his friends.

Kathryn was left standing there. "Kath! Okay ka lang?!" Julia stood beside her and looked at her with concern.

"Ah? Oo...tara kain na tayo." Kathryn sat down immediately and wore Daniel's jacket.

She started eating when she noticed Julia grinning.

"Oh, bakit ang laki ng ngiti mo?" Kathryn asked in suspicion.

"Crush mo si Daniel noh."

Kathryn's eyes widened in shock. "Crush? Kakakilala ko pa lang sa kanya, crush agad? Ano 'to, Juls, PBB Teens?"

Julia giggled. "Che! Pero, ang sweet niya kaya! Yung ibang lalake kasi pag nagkakakasalanan sa babae tulad kanina sa inyo di pahihiramin ng jacket."

"Sus, manahimik ka na lang nga. Siguro ikaw may tama ka kay Daniel noh?" Kathryn teased.

Lunch hour passed and Kathryn and Julia went back to their lockers and then to their classroom afterwards.

"Good afternoon, class." Ms. Gonzales, their English teacher, greeted them.

"Good afternoon, Ma'am." They greeted back.

"Today, since it is the first day, I would assign you a pair you wouold work with all throughout the school year. Once I choose your pair, you cannot choose anyone else. It's final. Understand?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Good. Let's start with..."

Ms. Gonzales kept on talking as Kathryn wished she and Julia will be partners.

"Bernardo and..." Kathryn crossed he fingers and wished it was Julia.

"...Padilla."

Kathryn sighed and looked across the room at Daniel, who was already looking at her, smiling, putting up a thumb up sign and mouthed. "Okay lang yan!"

Kathryn just smiled weakly and looked away.
