"Jeffery Nozdrin. When you were in the hospital, he was one of the beta agents who came to get my statement. I accepted his friendship because I was hurting, and I didn't want to burden Zoe, Mike or Chip because they were hurting too. A month turned into nearly a year, and I found out that he was telling people that we were dating." Erica explained. My jaw clenched, but I kept my eyes on the road.
"He tried to kiss me." She whispered, and I slammed on the brakes.
"What?!" I yelled, turning to her. Erica's blue eyes were frightened. "Remind me to kill this little shit once we get back." I growled, getting back on the road. I felt her hand on my arm and I calmed down.
"I turned him down and reported him to the agency. He's been put on probation for the next year. He's delusional, Ben. He didn't just tell people we were dating, he believed it too." I snarled.
"Wow, man. You're scary when you're angry." Mike remarked as we turned into Pennsylvania avenue. I pulled up to the booth outside of the gates and flashed them our I.Ds. The man nodded, and we drove ahead. I parked the SUV outside of the doors, and it was immediately searched for weapons and such. Once declared clean, we were led into the federal building. As we approached the office, I shared my concerns with Erica.
"I don't have the best track record with the oval office." I explained. Once it had been blown up, the office had been repaired, but countless artifacts had been lost. The desk in the oval office had been President Kennedy's in the 1960s, and a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation had been destroyed. Erica looked at me, and smirked. She ruffled my hair.
"We're not going to do that again, are we?"
"No, sir." Mike and I mock saluted and Zoe and Erica cracked up. I smiled again. Things were back to the way they should be. We entered the oval office. There was a woman with blonde hair sitting at the desk. She looked up, and I noticed that her brown eyes were warm. She looked pretty young, maybe around 36.
"Madam president." Erica stepped forward and shook the president's hand, as did Zoe and Mike. I stood in the back. Finally, she turned to me. A spark of recognition dawned in her eyes.
"Agent Benjamin Ripley." I nodded and stuck out my hand.
