(This is mostly a flashback chapter)

             *WASHINGTONS POV*

I haven't seen Hamilton in a while. It's been hours since he left to look around for British soldiers and it's obviously not very safe here.
I know he will never see me as a father figure, but I can't help but seeing him as a son I've  never had. Since I found out about his horrible childhood, I've felt very protective of him...

       *FLASHBACK* (still in G.wash's POV)

Hamilton seemed to be in a bad mood all day. He would walk away anytime anyone tried talking to him or ask him what was wrong. He wouldn't even look anyone in the eye. At first I had decided to leave him alone but he had been isolating himself from everyone which was unlike his usual excited, happy, loud...
very loud self. I wondered what was wrong with him. Then, I caught a glance of his friends' sympathetic expressions.

Maybe they know what's wrong. I thought.
I walked over to where John, Hercules and Lafayette we're sitting.
"Oh, hey sir" they said in unison with a small, saddened smile. "Hello you three. I wanted to ask you something." They looked up at me with questioning eyes. " Do any of you know what's wrong with Alexander?" Their expressions explained that they were debating whether to tell me. John had asked if we could go somewhere private so we went to my tent.

"Ok" Laurens said "Sir, please don't tell anyone about this. He's been in a horrible mood today because..." He hesitated " This was the day his mother died...The day he became an orphan.. he was only 12 years old." I was lost for words. I didn't know about this. "What about his father? Wasn't he around?" "Sir, Petit lion's (nickname for Hamilton if you don't know :3 )  father had...how you say...abandoned his family at 10 years old."Lafayette said. "Then he and his brother had moved in with their cousin but not long after, he had commit suicide. And then at 17 years old, Alex and his brother were separated after the hurricane." "He told us that he almost died when a pole fell on top of him holding him under the water. Apparently, he passed out and doesn't know how he survived." Hercules said.

"He.... sometimes has pretty bad panic attacks during storms now. We're always there for him and make sure to keep his "embarrassing" secret." We told him that he should tell you but he sees it as a weak trait and doesn't want anyone, especially you to see him as, said by him, " a weak, scared orphan." I guess this day reminds him of everything that's happened in his past... He's definitely had a rough childhood."

Later, I approached him and again, he wouldn't look me in the eye. He tried walking away from me but I grabbed him by the arm to pull him back.
"Son..." "don't call me son" he grumbled with has voice cracking in the end. "I want to talk to you" I explained that I knew everything now. "Son...I'm so sorry."  "No..n-no..no no no..." Hamilton said frantically. "Hamilton?" I said. He looked up at me with the saddest pair of eyes I've ever seen in anyone. Tears were streaming down his face. I never thought I'd see someone like him cry. Especially him. My heart broke into a million pieces seeing him like this. Just then, I pulled him into a hug and we were there for a while.

             *FLASHBACK OVER*

I was very surprised when they told me this and Alex gets pretty annoyed when I'm protective and call him son and that some of the soldiers tease him about it but I can't help it.
I decided to look around camp to see if he was back and just didn't check in with me. He probably just didn't want any "Nice work son" from me. I asked a few people that were close to him where he could be or if they had seen him around. It was all the same answer. " No I haven't seen him around since this morning." I also checked places he normally is. Again, no Hamilton anywhere. At this point I've checked everywhere. I could probably ask his friends if they've seen him. Out of anyone, he would tell them where he is. I walk around camp to find his "squad" with no luck. They're probably busy but the longer he's gone the more nervous I get. He could be in some serious trouble!
