LAUREN SQUEALED WITH EXCITEMENT as she blasted sunflower  in the car. this was the song that reminded her of her best friend, mackenzie. 

flashback !

may 14th, 2018.

"you're the sunflower! i think you're love would be too much!" screamed lauren and mackenzie. they knew all the words to this song.

 it was their  song.

both girls sat in the seats of the uber they had ordered earlier. mackenzie was blasting all of the hottest new music as they gossiped. i wonder how the driver wasn't getting annoyed at this point. but the more annoying, the better teen you are. 

nothing really mattered at the moment for lauren and mackenzie. as long as they were together, nothing ever mattered.

today, mackenzie would be coming home and i cannot be more excited! now, you may be wondering, who are you? 

i am lauren orlando, i'm fifteen, and i'm kind of your basic teenage girl. 

and im here to save the world.

no not really. you can't compare me to the icon herself.

i love roses. and no, not the song roses. even though that is such a bop. a rose kind of describes me, well probably besides a sunflower. an inside joke with kenzie.

this is random but like, don't you love it when somebody is laughing and you're like "what" and they're like "inside jokes." 

sorry i just love to rant, but you better get used to it because i'm taking you on my journey in high school. and i'm warning you, it's harsh.

anywhore, i'm so excited because i get to reunite with my best friend, kenzie, after she's been gone for a month and fourteen days.

not like i counted-

i didn't even listen to any billie eilish all morning because of how thrilled i am. which is shocking, once you know me. 

"lauren, we're here!" my mom announced. we had drove to the airport to see mackenzie take a step back into LA. summer was quite boring without her. i missed her way too much!

my mom meredith & i took a giant step into the noisy airport filled with selfish people rushing to their gate to departure. this is why i can't stand LAX. but it's worth it for kenz. 

"skrrrrt, flight S3X from toronto, canada is arriving! i repeat, flight S3X from toronto, canada is arriving! grab yo hoes." reported the lady who worked for the airline who spoke on the intercom. what a savage. mackenzie would be here anytime soon!

 i started jumping around with eagerness. i couldn't hold it in! aah.

i got a few stares from people around me. ew. 

"just a normal fifteen year old jumping around like an idiot, nothing to see here." i spat. oh, what a jerk i am. embarrassment central has competition. 

people started boarding off of the airplane and my heart was beating real fast. i kept searching for kenzie, i was determined to be the first person to hug her! 

suddenly, a stranger tapped me on the shoulder. 

"ruby, omg i missed you!" exclaimed the girl.

i turned around and started to chuckle. "i'm not ruby. i'm lauren, haha." 

"omg i am so sorry! i thought you were my sister ruby omg. omg so sorry again!" answered the mystery girl. she sure loved the word "omg."

i could see her clearly now. she had red, slightly wavy hair and hazel brown eyes. at first, i thought they were green or something. she was pretty, i admit. i'm kind of jealous. 

something caught my eye. it looked like mackenzie or somebody. oh, i am so excited! if i haven't said that like five million times already.

i start to run up to her, until i notice something..

she was holding hands,

with a boy.
