We rounded the corner, and were meet with gunfire. Melinda rolled towards a chunk of concrete and a couple of our soldiers fell. John fumbled with his rifle, almost dropping it. Kimberly joined Melinda, and I stuck to the corner of the building. I peeked out and saw about 400 Enforcers, all behind a barricade about 75 feet away, rifles poking over the top. I pulled my bow off my back and knocked an arrow, waited for the sight, and released. The arrow flew straight into one of the helmets poking over, then the body slumped back. The Black Leader stepped forward, and whipped her arm around, metal expanding out into a shield. "Press up!" she yelled, and a few men followed behind her. A coupled other people also brought out shields, moving in groups. Melinda then sprinted into a nearby building, and shot from the door way. I drew another arrow, before a nearby group of soldiers exploded. Artillery fire, a 10 foot crater now were four men used to stand, only 15 feet from me.  A mist of blood floated past me,  I wiped some of it from my face. Peeking out, the shield line was steadily moving up, but the artillery would take them out if it can aim true. Looking farther ahead I saw their mortars, basically immobile grenade launchers, but more powerful. I couldn't hit them from where I was now, so I would have to move up, but there was no real cover up there. A shell hit another group of soldiers, thinning our numbers even more. I looked around, trying to find something that could help, and I noticed a water drain pipe snaking down the building. It was riveted, so there were some places to hold, and I began climbing. When I reached the top of the roof, it shifted, knocking me down. Something had hit it before, because a large crater was in the center of it, and I was now sliding down into it. I fell into darkness, a few thin shafts of light poking through a couple holes and the one I just fell through. There was no time to waste so I pulled out the flash light I found back at base and began sprinting down the hall, the sound of gun fire and explosions right outside. I shined the flashlight around the hall I was in, a couple dark doorways greeted me. I started sprinting down the hallway, looking for the staircase, which wasn't easy to miss. Practically flying down the stairs I passed the floor numbers, 4th...3rd...2nd...1st. Another explosion rocked the building, and I was knocked to my feet. I grabbed for a hand hold and pulled myself up, but when I pulled my hand back it was sticky and wet. Blood. I turned the flashlight to the area and a crushed, blooded torso greeted me. Now the sickly sweet smell of rot started to present itself, the people here must have died within a week. I stumbled toward the exit, and was blinded by the bright light. I was now in an alley way, the sounds of battle right around the corner. I peeked out, the mortars only 20 yards away. I could shoot now, but I would give up my element of surprise. I looked towards the street, and the Black Leader was pinned down, close enough to stay out of artillery range, but far enough from the barricade to be unable to help. I spotted a stack of ammo crates near the other side of the street and rolled over to it. 5.56 bullets in stacks greeted me, and just the bit of luck I needed. A small crate of grenades, with a few already taken out, was just siting there. I snatched the crate, and sneaked back into the alley way, into the other buildings. This one was virtually untouched, and I climbed to the roof without worry. I checked the box, 8 out of 12 grenades remained. I picked one up, held the clamp, and pulled the pin. Chucking it out as far as I could near the mortars, I picked up another and repeated the process, alternating between the mortar area and the front lines. When I was out of grenades, I looked down, as the first 2 exploded from their 10 second fuses, a chain reaction started. Turns out the mortar workers kept the shells close, and these now all exploded. The force of it sent me flying back, hitting the tarmac of the roof fairly hard. I scrambled to my feet and looked over the edge. The mortars were most definitely destroyed, as with the barricade. Bodies littered the street, red everywhere. The Black Leader retracted her shield, and stepped forward, seemingly unfazed by the gore. I shakily exited the building, where my squadron was standing in the street with the Black Leader. Time to move on...
