It was just another cold night along the bankside. Mama always made me a new brown scarf to wear for when it hits fall and would tuck my hair in saying, "We need to protect that nice golden hair of yours. We don't want it freezing off now." She would always say these things to make me feel better about upcoming fall. It was harsh on us every year. Rabbits became rare to find near the forest and fish became more and more scarce. At night wolves would appear more often, but they didn't seem to want to eat. They would always scope the place out as if they were planning something. Papa always thought they were planning to eat us while we sleep, but mama just said that they are as tired as us and looking for a warm place to lay. I didn't think either were true, yet I never came up with a conclusion of my own.

On one night of fall I laid on my bed. Blonde hair knotted into many nests. I remember stressing over the thought of brushing them out the next morning when I heard it. It sounded like a whisper, but so loud that the whole town can hear it. Few seconds went by when the wolves came out of the forest. Their howls gradually started and became louder as seconds moved by. I felt my heart almost come out of my chest when my father came running down the hall with his gun. I froze fear when my father began shouting.

"They are here to kill us all!" He seemed to be a lunatic at that moment, "I told you they would eat us and here they are!" My mother was next to run past I could hear her in my frozen state.

"Stay inside they won't hurt us if we just stay inside!" I heard a shriek and from outside and the shattering of glass near the entrance of our home. The adrenaline pushed through me and I shot up and towards the door. My mind took over my eyes and it was almost like being blind. Truly being blind with fear. The blinding thoughts stopped when I made it to the scene. My thoughts had been drowning out the screams of my mother being attacked my what seemed to be a wolf. Black mist frothing out of the sides of its mouth and eyes. It seemed unreal. My father laid dead right next to the door. He seemed to be fully intact but his eyes were lifeless and and mouth full of pitch black blood. My mother saw me in her last seconds of life.

"HELP ME! CLARA!" I couldn't take my eyes off of her, "DON'T LET ME DIE LIKE THIS CLARA, OH GOD PLEASE HELP M-." The creature seated it's teeth into her throat. Eyes rolled to the back of her head while the black liquid poured out of her mouth. Her head hit the floor and I could finally feel the sting of tears and the trembling fear out of my body. It's eyes hit mine and silence was in the room for what felt like an eternity. Before it could even move in the slightest my body finally did something useful. I ran towards the kitchen with it right behind me. I grabbed the nearest thing which was my, now dead, mother's silver utensil collection. I fell to my knees Not even a second goes by before I swung the butter knife across the monsters neck, turning the creature to mist and evaporating away.

It wasn't until then when I realized I was nearly out of breath and tired. Whatever that was it was dead, and that whole event was now over. I threw my head back in relief that the worst was over. It had been at least 8 minutes before I had tried standing up. The loudest bang came from the living room and I didn't want to go through with the fight again, but right behind me something burst through the window. All I remember is that it was hot and bright flames and smoke filling up the room quickly. It wasn't long before everything became fuzzy. A figure hopped right in through the window. That was the last figure I saw before passing out onto the kitchen floor. The last I would see that kitchen. The last I would see my mama and papa. The last breath of my normal life.

"This one's still clean!"
