We never thought this would happen.
I look over my shoulder at the cold, lifeless Earth that was littered in filth we couldn't dispose of.
I board the ship and sit by a window. The noise was one of the worst parts: Babies screaming and crying, young boys asking what will happen to their plastic swords and little toy cars.
For centuries, these non-biodegradeable items have been used. But no one listened when a concern was brought. Our planet will be destroyed at exactly 22:00. I was never quite old enough to enjoy the beautiful oceans and flowing rivers. I've never physically seen a clear blue water in my life.
But I know it was beautiful. The Caribbean was a bright aqua blue and everyone loved the water. Now that same water is gray and toxic.
This planet was destroyed years ago. It's not fair to say that this generation is the cause. Everyone has took advantage of the plastic wrapping over toys and the secure packaging around food. It's always been this way.
My parents used to tell me stories about their adventures around the world before it got too bad. After the boom of plastic bottles, landfills began flowing into the oceans. Even small lakes began being dumped with polluted water and containers.
At first the world leaders tried to cover it up. They made up a lie that only some water was infected with the toxins and trash. They found large areas and filled in the ponds so no water source was around and built big steel walls around them. Project Oasis was a disaster. People wanted out. They wanted to explore the world and be a free. That just couldn't happen though.
"Please fasten your seatbelts and put on your air masks before take off." The shuttle pilot booms and we strap ourselves in. The cabin was silent at take offf, everyone was lost in the thought of leaving all we had ever known.
A couple hours pass and the shuttle is safely outside of Earth's atmosphere. The sight made me gasp. The pictures of our blue and green earth were make belive. It was brown. Our planet sat looking defeated. We did this. We did this to our beautiful planet.
I check the time and watch closely after realizing there are only a few short minutes until it's gone forever. Governments wanted to destroy the planet so young kids can forget forever and we can restart fully.
A big blast was heard and just like that debris of our past life flew around the shuttle. A tear slid down my cheek as I watched it turn to dust right before my eyes. But it was short lived. The pilot sped off to Mars, our new home.
This is the tragedy of the entire human race.
We Couldn't belive it would happen. Ever.
It's awfully sad. We Couldn't save the one place that always seemed to have enough. Maybe next time we won't be so foolish.
