TAYLOR'S POV

beeeeep. beeeeep. beeeeep. I rolled over and groaned at my alarm clock. 5:40am. I wasn't used to waking up this early yet, because all summer I slept until whatever time I wanted. I smashed down the "off" button and sat up against my headboard. Rubbing my eyes, I thought 'you better get up now, the first day of school is pretty important'. Grumbling at my own inner-monologue, I finally managed to stumble out of bed.

I walked into my bathroom where I quickly washed my face from it's grogginess, applied a layer of mascara, and brushed my teeth. Moving on to my dresser, I put on my already-prepared-outfit of black skinny jeans, a loose white t-shirt, and white high tip converse. The outfit still didn't look completed, then I realized I never did my hair. I smoothed over my already straight locks and applied some product for more shine.

Finally I was ready to go get some breakfast. I already prepared a smoothie the night before, so I just grabbed it out of the fridge and shook it up. Sitting at the table, I heard my phone rumbling against the table.

Dan: "first day!!! are you ready??"

Me: "unfortunately yes..."

Dan: "oh come on, it's our last year. We can rule these halls!"

Me: "maybe u can, me not so much"

Dan: "fine. Then I'll rule the halls with you by my side ya dingus"

Me: "go get ready Dan, don't wanna be late do ya?"

Dan: "see u there."

Grabbing my backpack on the way out, I got into my white sedan and drove off to school.

Once I got to school, I pulled up into my normal parking spot near this huge oak tree. Just like everyday for the past 3 years, Dan was waiting for me to walk into school together.

Dan and I have been friends since 9 years ago, when I moved into his neighborhood. He was a few inches taller than me, 6'1" maybe, and had dark hair and pale green eyes. He was the most popular guy in the school. His looks we're able to get him any girl he wanted, and his sense of humor yet bad ass-ness made him the center of the guys.

Me on the other hand, was not so popular. I didn't know what it was, but people usually just ignored me. Wouldn't you think the best friend of "Mr. Popular" would give you some stardom? I think it did the opposite - people would push by me to get right to Dan.

"Yooo Tay, nice outfit" he said pulling me in for a hug.

"Hey Dan" I said into his shoulder.

Putting one arm around my shoulder and using the other to gesture to the school, Dan said, "look at this place Tay. 180 more days in here then we are home-free. We can do whatever we want, go wherever we please." He looked down to me, "are you ready to crush this school year?"

I couldn't help but laugh and roll my eyes at his question, but I just replied "let's do this thing".

"That's the spirit!" He lifted up this hand to gesture that I join him in on our handshake we created when we were 13. Rolling my eyes once again, we slid our hands together then fist bumped, ending in an "explosion" of our hands.
