I boarded all the way to the bus stop-which mind you, is 3.5 miles from my house. Yah, not fun. But it's better than what would've happened if I stayed at my house.

Sitting on the old wooden bench, I looked at my phone and saw that it was 5:25 and the bus comes at 5:35. I took this time to text my friend and fill her in a bit. I mean she already knows the basics-and that caused her to want me to come live with her and her family for months now. I just never had the courage to leave, until now.

To Beth:

Hey girl, I'm omw to yours-is the offer still on the table?

I sent it and it was a while before she texted back.

From Beth:

Definitely! My mom adores you and my dad loves talking sports with you! I'd love to have my girl around the house too:)

I smiled but then my phone buzzed again.

From Beth:

Oh, btw we have some old family friends visiting from out of state rn...so hope you don't mind chillin with me and some guys ;)

To Beth:

Lol I'm always up for new friends, eta 2 hours.

Here's an accurate description of my best friend Beth: she has shoulder length dirty blonde hair, brown eyes, and is literally every guys dream. Her family is basically rich, and her house is like a log-cabin/mansion.

Her and her family used to live around my area, and we went to school together up until freshmen year of high school. That year, her and her family moved 2 hours away from us to a house that's on the Rhode Island/Connecticut border. I've texted her, and we've still kept the title as the dynamic duo, but we haven't seen each other since 8th grade.

Sighing, I see the headlights of the bus. I hand some money to the driver, and head to the back. I wait until we're moving to put my headphones in and relax. Before completely letting go, I set an alarm for 1 and a half hours from now. Eventually sleep over takes me.

---

I jolt awake from the buzzing in my hand. Ok, guess that plan worked-I mean, I'm up right? Scared half to death, but I'm up.

Looking out the window I see a sign that indicated that we're close to the only bus stop there is around here, and it just so happens to be a 20 minute drive to Beth's house from there. Well then.

About 10 minutes after I wake up, the bus stops and I get off. Waiting for after traffic to slow, I begin to penny board. It's around 7:30 right now so people are probably in their houses eating with their family. If only I had that. I keep riding until her house comes into view.

To Beth:

Just got here, heading up your drive now ;)

I began my long track up her half mile driveway. Ugh so much work. And another thing-it goes up hill.

From Beth:

Okie dokie, see you in a bit. My mom is more excited than me rn it's scary.

At this I let out a giggle and think back to all the times Annemarie (Beth's mom) helped me out when they still lived in the neighborhood. Smiling, I continue the long walk up to the house.

**in spongebob narrator voice**

-10 minutes later-

I finally made it up the drive. At this point, I'm a tad sweaty and disheveled, but I go up to the door and knock anyways. Hoisting my backpack up on my shoulders and readjusting my mint green penny board, I wait for the door to open.

The door creaks open-just kidding, more like flys open-and I look up. Before I can even get a good look at who answered the door, I'm pulled into a warm embrace. It felt good to be back with (basically) my second family. Or I should really say the only people that have treated me like part of their own.

"Omgggggg Mia yours here! I haven't seem you in forever! Ughhhh I missed you so much!" Just by the voice I knew it was Beth.

"Elizabeth, don't hog her all to yourself now!" A voice said from behind her. I immediately dropped my things (carefully because of my laptop) and ran over to the only woman who has been there for me through my ups and downs since I was 8.

"ANNEMARIEEEEE!" I squeezed her shoulders before letting go completely.

"Ah, Maria. You look stunning as ever. Beautiful as the last time we saw each other." She smiles, and I return the favor.

"Girl where do you want all this stuff?" Beth had picked up my backpack and board-acting as if weighs 100 pounds. "I'm just fooling, I'll put em' in my room."

I just smiled and laughed, things that I haven't done, genuinely, in quite a long time. Annemarie went to close the door, and lead me towards the wooden stairs.

"I'll have Beth loan you some clothes, and then we'll introduce you to our guests. They're delightful mates, you'll love them."

As the last word came from her mouth, and she turned around, I began up the stairs. But apparently I had the same idea as someone else.

Before I could even let out a scream, it eventually just came out as a high pitched whimper, someone crashed into me-but I never reached impact to the hard floor.

"Hey-oh wait, you're new." Looking down on me, and thankfully catching me before I fell to my doom back down the stairs, was a boy who looked around my age.

And boy, he was something.
