Chapter 5

April's POV

I was in a daze, I wasn't seeing right. How could I have known what was to come. But by the time I realized it was too late. I couldn't stop even if I wanted to. All I remember is falling, falling...and then, I landed on the hard, cold ground with a sickening snap. In my subconscious I knew that I died but...it didn't seem real.

"Don't be afraid my child, you will be okay." I heard a voice say

"Mother, is that you?" I could see nothing except white clouds. "Where are you?"

"I'm right here my child," she materialized in front of me. "Dear, why did you abandon your mate?"

"I'm just not ready to have someone like that in my life, I-I'm...its just-"

"Your afraid of love, you don't want what happened to me to happen to you, am I right?"

"No, it's not that it's-"

"Yes my dear April, that is exactly the reason. Do you know how long that boy has been waiting for you to show up in his life? Now he must be heart broken that you have 'died'."

"But I haven't died, its just a-"

"Yes, I know but he doesn't." she said as she gestured to a portal that showed Cale at the top of the cliff staring down at my body that lay crumpled among the sharp rocks, tears running down his face.

"Your body is healed and is ready for you to return to it." Mother said.

"But mother if I go back now, Cale will see me and wonder how I was able to survive! He might find out about me and-"

"And he will except you the way you are, I can tell he already loves you even though you have only spent a small amount of time together. So don't be afraid, he will protect you and love you forever. Now go to him and reassure him, go tell him you love him, go!"

Cale's POV

I started to panic and it hurt my heart when April was crying. She almost seemed as if she was in a trance just staring into the distance. I tried to call out to her and such but she just looked mortified and took off running. I did my best to keep up with her but, dang is she fast. As soon as I realized where she was headed, I started screaming her name, trying to do anything to prevent what might happen next.

I wasn't prepared to watch as my mate my only true love fell off the cliff and plummeted to the ground, landing with a sicking sound. That's when I lost it. My heart felt like it had been crushed. I fell to my knees and stated down at my mate's body, crumpled between the rocks bellow. Tears trickled down my face without me knowing, I felt cheated. How could some people get to live with their mates forever, but I got to spend a few hours with mine before...

It hurt to think that I would never see her in a wedding dress walking down the aisle to meet me. I would never see her carrying our pups. Or even have her help run my pack.

At some point I considered joining my mate's fate, but I am the alpha of my pack. I need to live and take care of them. But what is the point of living without my dear April?

Then something caught my eye, April was moving! She was still alive! how could this be, I watched as she fell, no one could have survived that! Not even I could have survived that! Who the hell knows how it happened, all I care about is April. She is alive! I raced down the side of the cliff and race over to her.

"April!" I yelled as I got closer, I heard her groan. 'Thank god!' As soon as I reached her I bent down and scooped her up in my arms. I started to carry her back towards my pack house, I wanted her as comfy as possible. After all, she did just fall off a cliff.

She mumbled something that sounded along the lines of 'please don't hurt me .... to me .... not just .... can't do that.' Ok so maybe she was a little out of whack, but she is still alive and to me, that's all that matters.
